Metro has released the draft 2025-2028 Coordinated Public Transit – Human Services Transportation Plan Update (the Coordinated Plan for short) –– a framework to address the mobility needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities living in Los Angeles County. Updated once every four years, this document is mandated by the Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 program. Take a look inside, and you’ll see a focus on understanding service gaps, implementing transportation improvements that foster independence, as well as a list of projects and programs that inform the way we evaluate funding applications under Section 5310. A key goal: ensuring that resources are directed toward addressing unmet mobility needs.
We’re pleased to announce that the latest Coordinated Plan is available for public review and comment through June 2, 2025. Of course, it wouldn’t have been possible without you. Preparing the Plan required extensive outreach, including conducting five focus group meetings with over 100 participants from 65 agencies and two in-depth surveys for general public and transit service providers, respectively. We talked to everyone –– older adults and people living with disabilities as well as transportation service providers and community advocates to identify key challenges. Some big ones: limited-service hours, mobility barriers, the need for same-day services, and rising costs.
The public comment period is critical to finalizing the Plan, as the feedback we receive during that period will directly inform revisions. For that reason, we’re hosting a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During this meeting, project staff will present preliminary findings, discuss proposed project priorities, and answer your questions and concerns.

I’m not that good with zoom mtngs, but I do have concerns. I’m a senior. My name should be in your logs and notes on a number of occasions. I’ve reported a number of times that the elevators at the Vermont/Athens train is constantly soiled with feces, urine and people in the elevators doing drugs. This is dangerous and very unsafe for all parties involved. On the “C” There are people sleep on the train and when there are officers, they do nothing and say nothing. People are jumping the entry rails. Some wait til a paying person goes thru and they proceed aswell. Why aren’t Ambassadors or officers at the entry points to monitor this?.
The elevators at the Harbor frwy stop is also broken frequently. I had to catch the frwy bus and I had to go dwn the stairs because the elevators were not working. This is unacceptable. There’s an excavator but it goes UP, I needed to go DOWN it took me awhile to go down those stairs, I even missed my scheduled bus because of a non working elevator. As a senior with troubled/bad knees this was and is unacceptable.
