Are you a Metro rider? Congratulations –– you’ve just scored a pair of FREE tickets to Rare Books LA Union Station. This October 5 and 6, you’ll have the chance to explore an exciting world of antiquarian books, maps, photography, and ephemera in the historic Ticket Concourse at Union Station, the backdrop for numerous classic films, television shows, and the 2021 Academy Awards.

Once inside, you’ll find:
— A collection of nearly 30 broadside songsheets illustrated by legendary Mexican printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada courtesy of McBride Rare Books of New York
— Vibrant vintage posters, including a World World I book drive lithograph, courtesy of Kent Tschanz of Salt Lake City
— Talks by notable local authors, historians, and collectors
— Amazing rarities, such as Raymond Chandler’s very own copy of Farewell, My Lovely (his favorite Philip Marlowe novel). Offered by London bookseller Peter Harrington, this rare first edition is inscribed to the husband of Chandler’s private secretary. You’ll also find a signed limited edition of George Gershwin’s Song-Book from Owl Creek Books of Los Angeles, and johnson rare books & archives of Covina will feature a first edition of The Langston Hughes Reader, inscribed by the writer to Random House publisher Bennett Cerf.
Metro Art invites you to a “Meet the Artist” and poster signing event, featuring posters from four neighborhoods presented in the Through the Eyes of Artists series. Each day, Metro Art will highlight two different neighborhoods, and artists will be available for signings from noon to 2 p.m. Present your TAP card at the Metro Art table, and you’ll receive a limited-edition catalog showcasing posters from the series’ 20-year history. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis –– don’t miss out!
