D Line Extension Phase 2 news: starting on March 17, Wilshire Boulevard will be fully closed for three weeks in Beverly Hills between S. Crescent Drive and El Camino Drive to remove the deck panels and restore the street.
The panels allowed traffic to continue using Wilshire while we excavated subway tunnels and built the new Wilshire/Rodeo Station below ground.
Removing the deck panels will cause detours on several bus lines. Starting on March 17, Metro Lines 20/720 will travel via Santa Monica Boulevard, Burton Way, and San Vicente Boulevard. These lines will serve temporary stops on San Vicente Boulevard, on Burton Way, and on Santa Monica Boulevard. See the map below for details.
Line 617 will detour via Santa Monica Boulevard, Century Park East, and Olympic Boulevard. This line will serve a temporary stop on Santa Monica Boulevard at Wilshire Boulevard (also a Line 4 stop). These detours will be in place through April 7. See the map below.
We’re ensuring that access to local properties remains unhindered and that sidewalks stay ADA compliant. Emergency services will have uninterrupted access. Parking will be restricted near the work zone.
The plan calls for a three-week full closure instead of the 18-weekend closure originally outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement between Metro and the City of Beverly Hills.

The first section of the D Line Extension between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/La Cienega is forecast to be complete later this year. The second section will run between Wilshire/La Cienega and Century City and the third section between Century City and the VA Hospital in Westwood.

I know it is over and done with but it is unfortunate that the subway terminus will only be at the VA. At a minimum it should have continued another one or two stops to at least the highrise area around Centinela. In reality it should have continued all the way to Downtown Santa Monica and maybe even connect to the Expo Line.
I agree. Sad that there isn’t any talk at from Metro about extending the B line to meet the E in Santa Monica. It should be a priority. A natural terminus.
I thought the old Sears Department store that was converted into a failed office project a few years ago would have made for a great transit hub.
