Upcoming K-Rail installation work for East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project

We wanted to provide a construction update for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project, a 6.7-mile street-level rail line connecting Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta, and Pacoima. When complete, there will be 11 new stations along Van Nuys Boulevard, extending from the G Line Van Nuys Station to San Fernando Road in the north.

From Friday, October 10 until October 13, 2025, the project’s contractor, San Fernando Transit Constructors, will extend barriers on northbound Van Nuys Boulevard between Valerio and Arminta streets. 

These barriers are designed for your safety, as well as our construction crew. These barriers will block off one lane and the shoulder lane in the northbound direction on Van Nuys Boulevard, leaving two lanes open in each direction, and will remain in place until the utility work is complete, which is forecast for mid-2027. 

Any construction project creates potential impacts to traffic. Here’s what you can expect: 

• Expect traffic delays along Van Nuys Blvd. during barrier installation and the street reconfiguration. Traffic control will vary during the continuous weekend work from 8pm, Friday, October 10 to 6am, Monday, October 13, 2025. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during the reconfiguration of the street on Van Nuys Blvd between Valerio and Arminta streets. 
• Once the barriers are installed, the construction will occur from 6am to 8pm and from 8pm to 6am, both inside and outside the barriers as necessary. Some Saturday work may be necessary on side streets as needed during the day and night.  
• Street parking will be removed along northbound Van Nuys Blvd., between Valerio and Arminta streets, to accommodate the work area. Please follow the parking restrictions. Unauthorized and illegally parked vehicles within the work enclosures will be towed. 
• Bus service will continue with temporary bus stop relocations as needed. Sidewalks in this area will remain open for pedestrians. 
• Access to driveways will be maintained unless notified in advance. 
• Certain left turns will be removed at the completion of construction.
