The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project is building a 6.7-mile street-level light rail line from the Metro G Line Van Nuys Station to San Fernando Road. The rail line will include 11 new stations serving Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima.
As part of the ongoing utility work to prepare for major construction of the rail line, there will be street closures on Van Nuys Boulevard between Arminta Street and Sherman Way beginning January 26 and continuing through June 2026.
One side of the street will be closed at a time, while the other remains open with lane restrictions. Detours will be in place to direct drivers and bus riders going in the other direction around the closures.
Work hours:
Monday to Sunday at night from 9pm to 6am.
Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 9pm and 9pm to 6am.
Work is anticipated to start – weather permitting — on January 26 with a northbound directional closure lasting two weeks. Each directional closure may last one to three months.
Key Information
- At least one traffic lane in one direction remains open while the work occurs in the opposite direction.
- Access will be maintained outside of the work zone.
- Expect traffic delays and use alternate routes.
- Southbound Detour: Roscoe Bl. to Sepulveda Bl. to Sherman Wy. to Van Nuys Bl.
- Northbound Detour: Sherman way to Woodman Av. to Roscoe Bl. to Van Nuys Bl.
- Wyandotte St., Valerio St., Covello St., Saticoy St., and Keswick St. may be impacted with no outlet at Van Nuys Bl.
- Bus services will be temporarily detoured, and bus stops may be relocated for Metro Lines 169, 233, and 761, and LADOT Dash Service. For information about changes to Metro service, please call 323.GoMetro.
- The Van Nuys Metrolink-Amtrak station will remain open and accessible.

This line is too short and having to build a maintenance yard is expensive. This line won’t get to Slymar or north, or anywhere to the south. This should have been a street car line instead or better yet, the subway continuing north on Van Nuys blvd to Sylmar.
When will relocation start for tenants.
