You’ll find this stunning poster displayed on Metro’s fleet across the region starting February 18 and available for free (while supplies last) at Metro’s Customer Service Center in the east portal of Union Station.
Discover Florence-Firestone: A neighborhood with heart
Florence-Firestone is the 70th neighborhood to be featured in this series. This neighborhood has long been a cultural hub, shaped by the influences of Mexican American, African American and other immigrant communities.
Its story is deeply tied to L.A.’s industrial past—the neighborhood’s name comes from the intersection of Florence Avenue and Firestone Boulevard, once home to the legendary Firestone Tire Factory.
But Florence-Firestone is more than its history; it’s a thriving center of contemporary art, music and grassroots creativity. Murals line its streets, community-driven art movements thrive and a strong sense of resilience and innovation defines its people.
A visual tribute to Florence-Firestone
Designed by acclaimed local artist Buena Johnson, the Florence-Firestone art poster emphasizes the importance of local resources such as libraries, parks, and gardens. Johnson describes the neighborhood as “a community focused on unity, diversity, and literacy.”
Her artwork beautifully captures these themes with vibrant colors and meaningful symbols. The poster reflects the heart of the community and the creative energy that makes it a gem of L.A.
