A new exhibition at LA Union Station shows Metro’s commitment to preserving environments where many species can flourish. Now on view in the Union Station Waiting Room Gallery, the exhibition LA on the Move explores how people and wildlife travel through shared landscapes, following paths that overlap across the Los Angeles area.
Developed by Metro Art in collaboration with ArtCenter College of Design and Data Vandals — an art team that presents data in captivating ways — the temporary exhibition uses data visualization to illuminate how animals such as coyotes, mountain lions, red-tailed hawks, monarch butterflies and California kingsnakes navigate the neighborhoods in search of food, shelter, and safety.
Drawing from ecological data provided by the Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy, the exhibition showcases the role of various insects, plants and animals play in supporting healthy ecosystems — and how human actions can support or hinder their survival.
The exhibition also features student work from ArtCenter College of Design, offering speculative designs for more sustainable urban futures. Blending science, data, and creative design, the project amplifies the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing complex ecological questions.
Metro’s role in supporting a healthy environment: transit reduces car dependence – which helps cut greenhouse gases that cause climate change – and our projects strive to protect existing habitat and wildlife corridors, and we use native and climate-resilient vegetation.
Here’s how to get there
Go Metro to Union Station and experience one of the largest collections of public art in the nation along the way! The station is accessible via Metro Rail, Metro Bus, Metro Bike Share, Metrolink, Amtrak, and several municipal bus lines. Take the Metro A, B, D or J Lines directly to Union Station. Plan your journey using the Transit app, the Moovit app, Google or Apple maps, the trip planner at metro.net, or by calling 323.GO.METRO.
Union Station is now even more accessible via the A Line with the addition of four new stations: Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex and Pomona North.
For those driving, limited parking is available at Union Station garages for $8.
From Art Center College of Design (Pasadena): Free shuttles connect both campuses with Memorial Park, Del Mar, and Fillmore stations Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–11:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. More info

The Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy (AFC) is a non-profit organization focused on preserving and restoring natural open spaces and wildlife habitats in the San Gabriel and Crescenta Valleys near Los Angeles, California, primarily by identifying and protecting vital wildlife corridors that connect isolated natural areas, allowing animals to move freely through the urban landscape; they also provide educational opportunities to the community about the importance of these ecosystems.
