After years of anticipation, we’re just weeks from World Cup™ action beginning in the Los Angeles area. The Group Stage matches are set and we know that fans from across the globe are making travel plans. 

With parking limited at Los Angeles Stadium – known as SoFi Stadium – for the World Cup, Metro is working with more than 10 regional transit providers and charter bus companies to ensure everyone has a fast, affordable ride to the eight matches here. 

If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of L.A. traffic and the expense of parking at the stadium – which is two to three times our parking rates – we have you covered.  

Getting to the Matches at Los Angeles Stadium 

Los Angeles Stadium is in the city of Inglewood near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Metro and the region’s transit agencies will together run World Cup bus service to the stadium from 15 locations.  

You reach our World Cup service locations by:

  • Riding Metro bus, rail, regional transit or Metro Micro to a World Cup service location near you. No reservation needed.
  • Driving to a World Cup service location, parking your car and taking a direct service bus to the stadium.
  • Walking up or getting dropped off at a location.  

At the stadium, buses will drop riders at one of three locations: Lot R (Intuit East Garage), Lot S (at the intersection of Arbor Vitae Street and District Dr) or Lot T (at the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and Prairie Avenue). Here’s a map:

All World Cup service locations are accessible via local public transit. The locations are:

Hawthorne/Lennox Station on the Metro C Line and Metro Micro

  • Reserved parking is available. Links to parking for each match are in the section below. 
  • Regular transit parking will not be available on match days. 
  • Service begins 3 hours, 15 minutes before matches. For the June 12 USA vs. Paraguay match, service begins 4 hours, 15 minutes before the match — at 1:45 p.m.

Crenshaw Station on the Metro C Line

LAX/Metro Transit Center on the Metro C Line, Metro K Line, Metro Micro and served by many local bus lines and a shuttle that runs between the station and LAX terminals. This is a great option for those who don’t need parking!  

  • There is no parking at this location, nor is there a drop-off or pick-up zone. Please ride transit to this location.  
  • Service begins 3 hours, 15 minutes before matches.  
  • This route takes about 15 minutes travel time each way.  
  • Buses will drop off and pick up riders at “Lot S – Arbor Vitae/District Dr”, about a 5- to 10-minute walk to/from the stadium. 
  • This route name is “S11 LAX/Metro Transit Center.” 

Hotels & Parking LAX

  • Buses will pick up riders at three locations:
    • Eastbound 98th Street at Jetway Boulvard (near the Hyatt Regency, Courtyard by Marriott, Sheraton Gateway, H Hotel)
    • Eastbound 98th Street at Airport Boulevard (near the Sonesta, Hyatt Place, Embassy Suites, Residence Inn by Marriott, Los Angeles Airport Marriott, Renaissance)
    • Eastbound 98th Street at Bellanca Avenue (near the Hilton).

Downtown Long Beach on the Metro A Line and several Long Beach Transit bus lines

Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles on the Metro A, B, D and J Lines, as well as many local bus lines, Metrolink regional rail,  Amtrak inter-city rail and Greyhound bus. 

  • Parking will be $65 on a first-come, first-served basis on these dates that cover the eight World Cup matches in our region and the Heart of the City: Los Angeles Union Station Fan Zone: June 12, 15, 18, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28, July 2 and July 10. No reservations available. Heads up, Dodger fans: to avoid paying $65, please take transit or park at other Metro stations for games on these dates: June 15, June 21, July 2, July 10.
  • Service begins 3 hours, 40 minutes before matches. For the June 12 USA vs. Paraguay match, service begins 4 hours, 40 minutes before the match — at 1:20 p.m.

Torrance Transit Center, served by Torrance Transit buses lines 1, 3, 4X, 5 and 10  

  • Parking is free and is first-come, first-served. Customers can also use Connect Torrence microtransit or other rideshare services to reach Torrence Transit Center.
  • Service begins 3.5 hours before the match. For the June 12 USA vs. Paraguay match, service begins about 4.5 hours before the match – at 1:22 p.m.

ARTIC Anaheim Station in Orange County served by Metrolink, Amtrak and OCTA buses  

  • Parking reservations are $10.50. When you reserve parking, you’ll have a guaranteed parking space plus round-trip bus rides for all passengers in your vehicle on match day. Simply present your parking pass at the boarding area before you ride. Passes are valid only on the date of your reservation. 
  • Service begins 4 hours, 15 minutes before matches. For the June 12 USA vs. Paraguay match, service begins 5 hours, 15 minutes before the match — at 1:45 p.m.
  • This route takes about 70 minutes travel time each way.  
  • Buses will drop off and pick up riders at “Lot R – Intuit East Garage.”

Downtown Santa Monica, served by the Metro E Line and multiple Big Blue Bus lines 2, 9 and 43 and Metro bus lines 20 and 720

  • This route takes about one hour travel time each way.

Newport Transportation Center in the City of Newport Beach in Orange County, served by OCTA bus lines 1, 55, 57 and 79  

  • Parking reservations are $10.50. When you reserve parking, you’ll have a guaranteed parking space plus round-trip rides for all passengers in your vehicle on match day. Simply present your parking pass at the boarding area before you ride. Passes are valid only on the date of your reservation.

Parking reservations are now available for most locations. 

By reserving parking, you are guaranteed a parking space and round-trip rides for all passengers in your vehicle to and from the stadium on the day of your match.

If a location doesn’t appear on SpotHero, it’s because that location has sold out for that match. Parking availability and rates may vary by location and date.

Parking reservations are HIGHLY recommended to secure your spot. Some parking will be available at the locations on the day of each match but on a first-come, first-served basis. 

All parking lots will have security on hand before, during and after each match. 

Other important service details:  

•Service start times: As mentioned above, service will begin well before match times so fans can get to the stadium with plenty of time to enjoy the game-day atmosphere. PRO TIP: We encourage everyone to head to matches as early as they can.  

•Service will depart the stadium for two hours after each match ends. 

•Accessible parking spaces: All Word Cup Service will be accessible to fans of all abilities. Metro will provide additional accessible parking spaces at each service location to help meet increased demand. When reserving parking, riders may indicate if they use a mobility device. Please note that parking reservations secure a general parking space; accessible spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Service animals are welcome. 

•Paratransit service for visitors to L.A.: Metro is partnering with Access Services, which has an easy process for visitors who need paratransit service while in Los Angeles for the World Cup matches. Access Services is offered to individuals whose disabilities prevent them from independently using regular bus or rail service. 

•Keeping you cool: We know it can get hot in L.A. at any time of the year. We’ll have water stations and cooling stations and shade available at bus service locations.  

•Service is provided by Metro and our transit partners: Access Services, Big Blue Bus, Culver City Transit, Foothill Transit, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit System, OmniTrans, Orange County Transportation Authority, Riverside Transit Agency and Torrance Transit.

TAKING METRO MICRO TO THE WORLD CUP

Metro has created two Metro Micro World Cup Zones — in Hollywood/West Hollywood and East Los Angeles — that will use Uber vehicles to connect riders to World Cup service to the stadium. 

How to ride: 

•This service will run on the eight World Cup match days in our region (June 12, 15, 18, 21, 25, 28 and July 2 and 10).

•Customers will receive a $10 discount for Uber on eligible trips booked through the Metro Micro app. Riders must pay for any remaining trip cost after the discount is applied.

•Download the Metro Micro app for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Open the app and follow the prompts to sign up. 

•Before your first Micro booking, the app will show a short Fleet Agreement with Uber, a third-party service. You only need to agree once. 

•From the East Los Angeles zone, set your destination to Union Station. Micro service — provided by Uber — will drop you off at the rideshare lot on the East Portal side of the station. Walk through the station to the West Portal entrance, where you can transfer for free to our R2 World Cup service that runs nonstop to the stadium.

•From the West Hollywood zone, set your destination to Crenshaw/Expo Station on the K Line in the Micro app. Micro service — provided by Uber — will drop you off at the station. Then ride the K Line train to LAX/Metro Transit Center where you can transfer for free to our S11 World Cup bus that runs nonstop to the stadium.

•To get your free transfers: open Past Trips on the Metro Micro app to show Metro staff at fare gates and the World Cup bus that you rode Metro Micro. Please note that free transfers are only on connections to the stadium for World Cup matches.

After the match:

•To return to East LA zone: Ride the R2 World Cup shuttle for free back to Union Station. Walk from the West Portal side of the station back to the East Portal’s rideshare lot and book an Uber ride through the Micro app to return to the East LA Zone using the $10 discount.

•To return to Hollywood/West Hollywood: Ride the S11 World Cup shuttle for free to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, transfer for free to the K Line and ride to Crenshaw/Expo Station. From there, book an Uber ride through the Micro app to ride back to the Hollywood/WeHo zone using the $10 discount.

FARES 

Fares for riding to/from the World Cup matches without a parking reservation will be the same as regular Metro fares — $1.75 one-way and $3.50 round-trip. Fares can be paid with:  

•A TAP fare card – either a plastic version of the card or a digital card in Apple Wallet on iPhones or with the TAP app for iPhones and Android phones. More fare information here 

•A credit/debit card (including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and Union Pay), a new payment option Metro just added.  

•Pro-tip: Load return fare onto your TAP card ahead of time to avoid delays.  

SERVICE AND TRIP PLANNING 

In addition to World Cup service, we’ll be running our usual frequent service on our system while the World Cup is here in June and July to serve everyday riders and visitors who want to explore our region. Metro will be enhancing rail service on key routes during the World Cup.   

Metro runs six rail lines that span more than 120 miles as well as more than 100 bus lines that crisscross L.A. County. To plan a transit trip, use Google Maps, Apple Maps, the Transit or Moovit apps or the trip planner on metro.net.  

Two other rail agencies in Southern California connect with the Metro system in several locations:  

•Metrolink regional rail, which serves the larger L.A. metropolitan area that includes Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. 

•Amtrak, which provides inter-city rail service to the rest of California and other cities across the United States.  

•The local hub for Metro, Metrolink and Amtrak is Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.  

•Metrolink and Amtrak also serve Hollywood Burbank Airport. 

PROHIBITED ITEMS 

For safety and security reasons, there are items not allowed in the stadium for World Cup matches. Most notably, flags are restricted to 60 x 78 inches, transparent bags must be no larger than 12 x 12 inches and non-transparent bags can be no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches.

RIDER SAFETY 

Our Metro Ambassadors – who wear bright green shirts — will be stationed across our system to help you find your way and answer your questions. We’ll have plenty of other staff on the system to keep your ride clean and safe. Learn more about all our public safety work by clicking here.  

Metro will also be deploying a very visible presence of uniformed personnel including officers from the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and Metro Transit Security Officers. We’ll be coordinating closely with other local, state and federal enforcement resources. Metro will use security technology to ensure riders can travel with confidence.

TRAVEL TIPS 

Southern California is huge and runs from the ocean to the mountains to the desert. The region has in recent decades invested billions of dollars to build a modern public transit system with frequent service. Here are a few helpful tips:  

•The LAX/Metro Transit Center opened last June and is adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport, the largest airport in our region. The station is easy to reach via our C Line, K Line, several Metro bus lines and other municipal bus routes. A frequent bus shuttle runs between airport terminals and our station. As mentioned above, the LAX/Metro Transit Center will also have buses running directly to Los Angeles Stadium for World Cup matches. 

•An extension of our D Line subway opens May 8 that will make it easy and fast to ride to the Miracle Mile section of Los Angeles and to eastern Beverly Hills — hotspots for museums, shopping and food. 

•Lost & Found: Temporary table is set up at Los Angeles Stadium Lot R (Intuit East Garage). You may also call 323.GO.METRO or submit a report at metro.net/lostandfound

FIFA Fan Festival: Residents and visitors can also Go Metro to the FIFA Fan Festival at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from June 11 to June 15; the Coliseum is a short walk from the Metro E Line’s Expo Park/USC and Expo/Vermont stations. The festival will include live match broadcasts, music, food, cultural programming and interactive experiences. 

•Fan Zones: There will also be official Los Angeles World Cup Fan Zones at 10 locations across Los Angeles County during the World Cup where fans can watch live broadcasts of matches and enjoy other activities. All locations are accessible via Metro or other local public transit. 

One of the Fan Zones, btw, will be at Los Angeles Union Station in downtown L.A. from June 25-28. The station is an architectural gem and well worth visiting anytime. You can reach Union Station via the Metro A, B and D Lines, as well as local buses, Metrolink regional rail and Amtrak. 

•If you’re in town visiting, there is plenty of culture that can be reached directly on the Metro system. Visit the Discover LA website to learn more about events happening in our region during the World Cup and places to visit and explore.

  1. It’s really pathetic that this fancy new stadium was built without having any real transit connections.

  2. This will be a preview of the Olympic’s Special Service which will be extremely more intense where multiple venues will require service each day. Can the amateurs at the MTA pull it off? The RTD did a great job during the ’84 Olympics. Can the MTA match the creation of multiple Special Bus Lines, operating them efficiently and the need for additional Bus Operators?

Believe it or not, I’m less concerned about them being able to do it or not and rather I’m wondering if A) any routes that come out of this can be proven successful enough for freeway express bus service and B) would Metro be experimental enough to keep such routes going after the World Cup.

      Am I really expected to believe a Santa Monica to Long Beach Express Bus, Perhaps with Stops only at Downtown Long Beach, Redondo Beach Transit Center, LAX/Metro Transit Center, and Downtown Santa Monica station wouldn’t actually be successful at least during rush hour?
