A new Metro Art poster from the Through the Eyes of Artists series is now on view on buses and trains. The artwork by Ian Robertson-Salt turns the spotlight on Pico-Union — an area where historic architecture, storefronts, and daily life converge in vivid, complex layers.
Meet the artist and receive a signed poster on December 4 at Pico Union Project, or you can collect your own at all Metro Customer Centers beginning December 19 (while supplies last).
A closer look into Pico-Union
Robertson’s work emerges from hours of observation, exploring tree-lined streets, textured façades, and corners where community life and architecture meet. They draw from the everyday visuals of Pico-Union — the early-1900s residences of the Alvarado Terrace District, the glow of local storefronts in the morning, the bold creativity in local arts spaces, and the landmark Doria Apartments that reflect an era of early Los Angeles growth. The Pico Union Project, featured in the artwork through its distinctive stained-glass window, serves as a cultural touchstone and heartfelt hearth for the upcoming poster signing.
Featured at the center of the poster stands a local resident and artist whose creative journey is rooted in Pico-Union. The composition juxtaposes large scenes of the urban environment. Viewers can look closer, explore deeper and take in the depth and texture of the neighborhood.

This Metro Art poster invites you to see the area through a fresh perspective and perhaps take a Metro ride to explore it for yourself and experience one of the largest collections of public art in the nation along the way! Getting there is easy. Exit the B or D Line at Westlake/MacArthur Park Station and walk south to step into the neighborhood. Several bus lines—28, 51, 52, 200, and 33—also run directly through Pico-Union. The neighborhood is also accessible Metro Bike Share and several municipal bus lines.
