Downtown Dia de los Muertos Opening Ceremony
Gloria Molina Grand Park’s Downtown Dia de los Muertos opening ceremony kicks off with family-friendly activities, dance performances, poetry readings and, of course, elaborate traditional altars created by local artists and community organizations to honor those not with us anymore. Opening festivities take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the exhibition of altars continues through November 2. FREE

Grand Ave Arts: All Access
Ready for a day of FREE art and adventure? Catch up with L.A.’s greatest arts organizations at Grand Ave Arts: All Access in downtown L.A. Don’t miss the Metro Art Bus, an immersive art gallery showcasing We Are… Portraits of Metro Riders. It’s your chance to experience art on wheels. Plus, meet the incredible artist Samira Yamin at 12pm and 2pm at the Metro Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill Station and see her stunning artwork All is Flux in person. Find us at the Metro Art table at the station—on the street level. If you can’t make the talks, grab a self-guided tour map and explore at your own pace.

Attention SoCal history hounds! You don’t want to miss the Los Angeles Archives Bazaar for a chance to get lost in a trove of historical treasures and interact with experts from dozens of institutions and archives. The event takes place at Doheny Memorial Library on the USC campus.

The P-22 Day Festival
The P-22 Day Festival is taking place in honor of L.A.’s most famous – and beloved – mountain lion with a family-friendly celebration in Griffith Park. Big cat and nature lovers of all ages will be able to enjoy immersive exhibits and educational activities in this culminating event of Urban Wildlife Week.

Taste of Soul
Experience the flavors and culture of South L.A. at Taste of Soul, a fun-packed family festival on Crenshaw between Obama Boulevard and Stocker Avenue that annually draws more than 350,000 attendees. This once-a-year community celebration features the neighborhood’s best, with 150+ vendors, live music and entertainment.

UCLA Football
The Minnesota Gophers visit the Rose Bowl to play UCLA on Saturday evening.
Go Metro: Take the A Line to Memorial Park Station in Pasadena, turn right out of the station and walk to the free Rose Bowl bus shuttle that drops off at Gate B at the stadium. The shuttle begins running at 3 p.m. on Saturday and continues for 90 minutes after the game.

Sunday, October 20
Dodger Baseball
If the Dodgers can’t clinch the National League title in Gotham, they’ll return to L.A. for Game 6 vs. the Mets on Sunday at 5:08 p.m. If the series comes down to a decisive Game 7, that would be Monday at 5:08 p.m.
Go Metro: The Dodger Stadium Express is running from the South Bay and Union Station — and will run as long as the Dodgers keep playing. For both Games 6 and 7, the Dodger bus will start running at 2:08 p.m. from both Union Station and the South Bay.
South Bay: Dodger Stadium Express stops at Harbor Gateway Transit Center, which is served by the J Line and other local buses. The Dodger bus also stops at the Slauson, Manchester, Harbor Freeway, Rosecrans stations along the J Line.
Union Station is served by the A, B and D Lines, the J Line bus and many local bus lines.
Parking: $8 at Union Station; free at Harbor Transit. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis at both lots.
Heads-up! With sellout crowds expected and most folks sticking around until the end of the game, there may be a wait for buses after the game. One way to avoid lines? It’s a 1.2-mile and downhill walk from the ballpark to the Metro A Line’s Chinatown Station. Here’s a video that shows the walk.

LAFC Soccer
San Jose’s team visits LAFC for the final game of the MLS regular season. LAFC has already wrapped up a playoff spot and is currently the second-best team in the Western Conference behind the LA Galaxy.
Go Metro: Take the E Line to Expo Park/USC Station or the J Line to 37th St/USC Station — it’s a short walk from either to BMO Stadium.

Sherman Oaks Street Fair
If you’re in the San Fernando Valley on Sunday, the 32nd annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair will feature live entertainment, a cocktail lounge for the 21 and over crowd, carnival games, a pet zone and tons of special vendors. The street fair takes over a half-mile stretch of Ventura Boulevard from Van Nuys to Kester.

I had to quit on the Dodger Stadium shuttle from Union Station. Earlier in the season, I got there at 5:25 and didn’t reach my seat until the second inning, almost two hours later. Not enough buses and too far apart. You can get off the Red Line at Civic Center and walk up to Caesar Chavez / Sunset and jump on the number 5 bus to Vin Scully Avenue. Walk slowly up the hill and you’re there.
