Memorial Day weekend is here, and Los Angeles is pulling out all the stops. LA Fleet Week honors the nation’s Sea Services on the waterfront in San Pedro, Long Beach fires up the 4th Annual BBQ Festival and the newly opened D Line Extension celebrates Bike Month with a community ride along Wilshire Boulevard. There is something for everyone this weekend, and Metro can get you there — no traffic, no parking, no stress. Here’s what’s happening.

L.A. County Fair

La Verne/Fairplex Station: Connect with Foothill Transit bus 67 Fair Flyer. The 67 Fair Flyer is a shuttle providing pick-up and drop-off service to Fairplex gates beginning 10:30a.m. and will run Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Memorial Day.
Pomona North: Connect with Foothill Transit bus 197. On Friday, special service has been added for 9, 10 and 11 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and Memorial Day, Line 197 added special service for 8, 9, 10, 11 p.m. hours.

LA Fleet Week kicks off America 250 celebrations on the LA Waterfront in San Pedro
LA Fleet Week opens Memorial Day weekend on the LA Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles, honoring the nation’s Sea Services with a multi-day celebration at the historic Battleship IOWA. The free event marks the start of America’s 250th anniversary festivities in Los Angeles.

4th Annual BBQ Festival brings two days of smoky flavor and live music to Long Beach waterfront
Long Beach’s BBQ Festival is back for its fourth year at the Shoreline Waterfront, serving up two days of competition barbecue, live music and waterfront entertainment. It’s a Memorial Day weekend tradition that keeps getting better.
When: Saturday-Sunday
Where: Festival Grounds at Shoreline Waterfront, 212 Golden Shore, Long Beach

Go Metro: Take the A Line to Downtown Long Beach Station and walk about 16 minutes to the event on Golden Shore.
Friday, May 22
Bike LA, LA Walks and Metro Bike Share team up Friday evening for a family-friendly Grand Opening Ride celebrating the D Line Extension, stitching together all three new stations through the neighborhoods along Wilshire Boulevard. After the ride, stick around for Brian Swartz Quintet at Jazz at LACMA just down the street.
When: 5-7 p.m.

Jazz at LACMA: Brian Swartz Quintet brings trumpet, food trucks and free music to Mid-Wilshire
Trumpeter and bandleader Brian Swartz brings his quintet to the Smidt Welcome Plaza at LACMA Friday evening for a free outdoor concert. Swartz has recorded alongside Michael Bublé, Patti LaBelle, Keb’ Mo’ and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy — and he brings that same range to an open-air night on Wilshire. Food trucks Taco Cartel and Pie ‘N Burger round out the evening.

Day Trip in the Park brings underground house music to LA State Historic Park in Chinatown
Sunday afternoons don’t get much better than this. Day Trip in the Park takes over LA State Historic Park with a deep house lineup headlined by Joseph Capriati, Toman and Cole Terrazas. Tickets are on waitlist — act fast.

If you were hoping for a classic, sunny Southern California Memorial Day weekend, you may be a little disappointed — but the cool and comfortable weather has its own charm. A stubborn marine layer will keep mornings socked in with low clouds and fog along the coast and pushing into the valleys each night. Skies will clear to sunshine each afternoon, but temperatures will stay on the cool side, running 2 to 4 degrees below normal for most coastal and valley areas through the weekend.
Expect highs in the low to mid-70s for inland and valley areas, while the coast stays noticeably cooler. A light jacket or sweater is a smart call if you’re heading to the beach or planning any early morning outdoor activities this weekend. One thing to note: gusty onshore winds will pick up across interior areas over the next several days, though gusts will stay below 40 mph.
The cool pattern doesn’t end with Memorial Day. We have more cooling heading into next week, with most areas sitting 4 to 8 degrees below normal. May Gray looks to stick around as the dominant weather pattern for at least the next week, with marine layer clouds returning each night and clearing each afternoon near the coast.
