We invite Metro riders and cautious optimists everywhere to look for the silver lining in the everyday. La Esperanza — Alfonso Aceves’ powerful Silver Linings poster — is currently displayed on Metro buses and trains throughout the region.

“The music plays. The helping hand reaches out. The birds fly by. The flowers grow. The work of sharing joy continues. The community draws together. Our hearts beat for one another.”

  • Alfonso Aceves

These words, paired with Aceves’ bold and hopeful imagery, echo across the region and speak to the resilience at the heart of LA’s communities. It reminds us that even during life’s hardest moments, there are silver linings all around us — in nature, in movement, in music and most importantly, in each other.

Alfonso Aceves is an accomplished self-taught printmaker born and raised in Boyle Heights who has shown work throughout California, Washington State, New Mexico and Arizona. Aceves found his passion and inspiration for life through his discovery of printmaking 10 years ago.

On view across Metro buses from July 17 through September 15, 2025. Keep an eye out — and let this visual message ride with you.
