Keeping with the spirit of giving this holiday season, we’re offering free service on all trains and buses, Metro Bike Share and Metro Micro all day on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
All fare gates will be unlatched on the rail system, and fare boxes and validators will not deduct fare from TAP cards and fare media during the following times:
- Tuesday, Dec. 24, starting at 4 a.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 25 at
3 a.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 31, starting at 4 a.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 1, at 3 a.m.
For Metro Micro, use codes “Merry24” on Dec. 24 and “Ring25” on Dec. 31.
Metro Bike Share will also be offering free 30-minute rides from Dec. 24, 2024 through Jan. 1, 2025. Select ‘1-Ride’ at any kiosk, online or in the app and redeem free rides throughout the day with the promo code 010125. The fine print: A credit or debit card is required, and rides longer than 30 minutes are $1.75 for each additional half-hour. Electric Metro Bike unlocking fees will be waived during this period, and temporary credit card holds and Smart Metro Bike convenience fees will apply.
We’re also extending service on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve so everyone can get home safely.
On Christmas Eve: all rail lines will run until approximately 2 a.m. On Christmas Day: all buses and trains will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule. All schedules here
On New Year’s Eve: we’ll be running service all night on the A, B, D and E Lines. The C and K Lines will run until 2 a.m. On New Year’s Day, all buses and trains will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule.
Are you heading to the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day? We’re adding capacity and additional early morning trains. The A, C, E and K light rail lines will run the usual 10-minute service during the day. The B/D Line subway will run the usual 12-minute daytime service. If you’re going to see the parade floats on display at Victory Park in Pasadena, we’re running shuttle service from Sierra Madre Villa Station to the post parade viewing area from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on January 1.
On January 2 and January 3, shuttle service from Sierra Madre Villa Station to Victory Park will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Regular fares apply with free transfers available to and from other bus services with your TAP card.

Does all night entail that the A Line will run at 3 am 1/1/25? Thanks!

Sorry for slow reply. Rides were free until 3am service on the A, B, D and E Lines ran all night instead of ending as usual between midnight and 1am.

Hi more security is needed to monitor the Crenshaw Bl. bus #210, please.
Given all the street closures and detours near Grand Park for the NYE celebration, there should have been much clearer signs (or any signs, really) about where the bus stops were moved to. The Silver (J) Line detoured yesterday & today and there were no posts or signs or anything.
Hard to recommend Metro to friends if they can’t even find the stop to wait at!

Thank you for the feedback. We’ll let bus staff know about the missing signs. There should be signs posted when buses are detouring. We do post about planne4d detours on our service alerts feed on X (https://x.com/metrolaalerts) including detour maps and detour info is posted on Metro’s website (https://alerts.metro.net/).

Where can we find these news stories? The Source Blog hasn’t been updated since September; I can see this small “Rider News” section on the homepage on my laptop, (but not on my phone) and it only displays 3 stories at a time. Where are people supposed to go to see Metro news with The Source blog seemingly dead?
