Nice blue skies above the D Line this summer!

Cleaner air starts with choices we can make together — including how we get around.

For California Clean Air Day on Wednesday, Oct. 7, Metro is offering free rides on our buses, trains, Metro Bike Share and Metro Micro. Whether you’re commuting, running errands or exploring a new neighborhood, take a ride on us!

Here’s how to ride:

• Metro buses and trains: Ride free all day. No need to tap on fare boxes on buses and validators on the rail system.

• Metro Bike Share: Use code 100726 for a free 30-minute ride. Select “1-Ride” at a kiosk, online or in the Metro Bike Share app, then enter the code. A credit or debit card is required, and usage fees apply for rides longer than 30 minutes.

• Metro Micro: Book your free trip with the Micro app. Download it for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play. No code is needed.

• Our friends at Metrolink regional rail are also offering free rides. Metrolink is a great way to travel long distances in our region.

To plan your transit trip, use the new Metro app. Download for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Why does this matter?

Southern California’s air quality has improved dramatically over the past several decades. But cleaner skies remain a work in progress. Hotter weather encourages the formation of ozone — a major ingredient in smog — while wildfire smoke adds harmful particle pollution. Emissions from cars, trucks, ships and other sources remain a challenge, particularly for communities near busy roads and freight corridors.

Taking transit, walking or biking instead of driving alone helps reduce transportation emissions. Clean Air Day is a chance to try a different way to travel — and perhaps find a trip you’ll keep making without your car.

Organized by the Coalition for Clean Air, the annual event encourages Californians to take action for healthier air. Learn more and take the Clean Air Pledge.

Thanks for going Metro — and helping our region breathe easier!

Downtown LA looking nice-n-scrubbed after a storm cleared the skies. It would be awesome if it looked this good every day!
