Many of you told us that you wanted to see more public restrooms on the system. In October 2023, we began a pilot program for safe, clean, free-to-use restrooms, which have now been used over 90,000 times! Now, we have good news. Our Throne restroom program has expanded to ten locations and we’re poised to install more very soon.
Launched early this year, Thrones are portable, touchless, and ADA-complaint public restrooms that run on solar energy. Each unit is equipped with running water, ventilation, as well as basic amenities (toilet paper, soap, towels, and a baby-changing station). Toilets are open 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. seven days a week, although exact hours vary by location.
They’re easy to use, too. Just scan a QR code or send an SMS text message with a cell phone. Throne restrooms are compatible with the free Lifeline cell phone program for income qualified individuals. Once you enter a Throne, you have up to 10 minutes to do your business, allowing plenty of time as our pilot data shows that users only need around 3 minutes. Visitors will be made aware of the time limit when they enter the Throne and have plenty of advance notification before their session concludes. All instructions are provided in English and Spanish.

(In addition to the Throne units, there are two Metro bathrooms and several other public restrooms nearby operated by local jurisdictions.) More Thrones are coming soon! At the last meeting of the Metro Board of Directors, we got the greenlight to expand the Throne program to up to 64 stations for the next several years. Stay tuned for updates.

This is really an improvement! As I get older I start to need these more frequently. They are still few and far between, so great that there will be more. We’ll need a lot more for the Olympics in a few years, maybe Metro could keep ’em?
Do you know what the next stations are going to be? I can think of a handful that could use restrooms and have plenty of space
When I used to commute for work, I always wished there were restrooms at 7MC. I guess it can’t be solar-powered, but I would argue that it’s an important place to have restrooms (that aren’t also the elevators).

Whom supposed to manage and cleaning 🧹 those bathroom because about 20 minutes earlier I was at the Pomona North line throne number GP7 that bathroom have dry shits and shits everywhere that bathroom smell so bathroom if closed the door you would passed out from that smells. It looks like that bathroom having clean for days
