** Note ** As of 10:30 am on Friday, March 14, service has now been restored on Metro Bus Line 134.
Due to safety concerns about the incoming storm, Caltrans will be closing a segment of the Pacific Coast Highway to residents and businesses in burn scar areas beginning TODAY (Wednesday, March 12) at noon. The forecasted thunderstorms and rain of up to an inch per hour could result in heavy downpours that can cause debris basins to overflow, especially this evening.
This means that only emergency vehicles and US Army Corps of Engineers’ debris-hauling contractors will be allowed through the closure. Residents with homes in the burn scar area should consider alternate routes in the afternoon hours or consider teleworking if possible.
This means that our last Metro Bus Line 134 services will be 9:14 am westbound from Downtown Santa Monica and 10:35 AM back eastbound from Trancas Canyon, Malibu.
Caltrans and its partners will reassess the situation on Thursday to determine if the highway may reopen to residents and businesses with passes by Friday, March 14 for the 6 a.m. morning commute, if not earlier. This is dependent on the extent of the storm and resulting impacts of any debris flows.
