This weekend is a historic one for Los Angeles. The first phase of the D Line extension opens Friday with three new stations along Wilshire Boulevard and Metro is celebrating with free rides all weekend along. Beyond the opening, the L.A. County Fair kicks off its run, Netflix Is A Joke bring comedy to the city, and L.A Sparks Season Opener. Metro can get you there without burning gas or dealing with the parking headache. Here’s what’s happening.
Discovery Runs Deep Community Celebration marks historic D Line Extension opening along Wilshire Boulevard
The D Line Extension from downtown L.A. to Beverly Hills opens Friday with the Discover runs Deep Community Celebration at four stations. Live DJ sets from Metro Art and KCRW’s Soundtrips series, food from neighborhood favorites and crafting activities from Miracle Mile museums and local community fill all four stations celebrations from 12:30-4 p.m.
Free Rides
To mark the occasion, Metro is offering free rides across the entire system, bus, rail, Metro Bike Share and Metro Micro from 4 a.m., Friday, May 8 through 3 a.m. Monday, May 11. Use code 050826 for free Metro Bike share rides. No code is required for Metro Micro.

La Verne/Fairplex Station: Connect with Foothill Transit bus 67 Fair Flyer. The 67 Fair Flyer is a shuttle providing pick-up and drop-off service to Fairplex gates beginning 10:30a.m. and will run Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Memorial Day.
Pomona North Station: Connect with Foothill Transit bus 197. On Friday, special service has been added for 9, 10 and 11 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and Memorial Day, Line 197 added special service for 8, 9, 10, 11 p.m. hours.

LA Dodgers host Alanta Braves for weekend home series at Dodger Stadium
The Los Angeles Dodgers open will play three game series against the Atlanta Braves with back-to-back games at Dodger Stadium in Elysian Park.
When: Friday, May 8, 7:10 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 6:10 p.m. and Sunday, May 11, 1:10 p.m.

Netflix Is A Joke Festival
Netflix is a Joke Festival takes place from May 4-10 and includes more than more than 165 shows featuring more than 240 artists across the city. Featured artists include Jon Stewart, Jerry Seinfeld, Ali Wong, Nate Bargatze, Seth Rogen, Nikki Glaser and many, many more. Venues include the Hollywood Bowl, the Dolby Theatre and more. Some of these events are accessible by Metro.
Hollywood Palladium
Go Metro: Take the B Line to Hollywood/Vine Station and walk about 10 minutes to the Palladium.
Hollywood Bowl & Dolby Theater
Go Metro: Take the B Line to Hollywood/Highland Station. It’s a short walk to the Dolby Theater. If you’re going to the Hollywood Bowl, take the free shuttle or connect on Bus Line 222 to take you directly to the Hollywood Bowl.
The Orpheum Theatre
Go Metro: Take the B/D Line to Pershing Square Station and walk about 15 minutes to the theatre.
The Wiltern
Go Metro: Take the D Line to Wilshire/Western Station and walk a short distance to The Wiltern.
Saban Theatre
Go Metro: Take the D Line to Wilshire/La Cienega Station and walk a short distance.
Pacific Electric
Go Metro: Take the A Line to Chinatown Station and walk about 20 minutes to the venue.

Jazz at LACMA
Celebrate L.A.’s finest jazz musicians with Jazz at LACMA, presented Friday evenings from May through October. This week, join LACMA for a concert with the Lao Tizer Band, in support of their new release AMPLIFY.
The outdoor concert takes place at the Smidt Welcome Plaza at LACMA on Wilshire Boulevard.

Clockshop Kite Festival
“Take a Breath” is the theme for Clockshop’s 2026 Kite Festival, which is happening at Los Angeles State Historic Park in Chinatown on Saturday, May 9. The family-friendly event is free to attend and includes art and kite-making workshops, live performances, competitions and more from 2 until 6 p.m.

PRO Dance Free Outdoor Salsa Class
Metro is doing a station an activation at Wilshire/Fairfax Station. We are turning the station into a live dance floor for a salsa class. It’s free and public event at the plaza level of Wilshire/Fairfax.

What a weekend to celebrate Mom outdoors. High pressure is firmly in control across Southern California, delivering wall-to-wall sunshine and rapidly warming temperatures through the weekend and into next week.
Friday serves as the warm-up act, with highs climbing into the mid-70s to mid-80s across most coastal and valley areas. A weak offshore breeze will keep the sea breeze at bay, meaning even beach communities will feel the warmth. One heads-up for the morning commute: dense fog is possible along the coast Friday morning as building high pressure traps moisture near the surface overnight. Give yourself extra time if you’re heading out early.
Saturday and Sunday seems to be copy and paste weather with very warm temperatures in the 80s under sunny skies.
