Bus shuttles to replace trains between Monrovia and APU/Citrus for 6 weekends as we work to extend the A Line to Pomona

UPDATE, Nov. 6: please note that bus shuttles between Monrovia and APU/Citrus station will resume this week from 9 p.m. Friday through the end of service on Sunday.

UPDATE, Oct. 22: please note that we will have regular A Line service between Monrovia and APU/Citrus this weekend (Oct. 25-27) and the weekend of Nov. 1-3. That work will instead take place the weekends of Nov. 22-24 and Dec. 13-15. The info below has been updated.

Shuttle buses will replace rail service on the A Line between Monrovia and APU/Citrus for six weekends starting this Friday night, Oct. 18, as we work to extend the A Line to Pomona. The pic above shows recent train testing.

During the closures, regular rail service will run between Monrovia and Long Beach. 

Here are the dates and times of the rail closures: 

•Friday, Oct. 18, 9 p.m. through end of service Sunday, Oct. 20 

•Friday, Nov. 8, 9 p.m. through end of service Sunday, Nov. 10 

•Friday, Nov. 15, 9 p.m. through end of service Sunday, Nov. 17 

•Friday, Nov. 22, 9 p.m. through end of service Sunday, Nov. 24

•Friday, Dec. 6, 9 p.m. through end of service Sunday, Dec. 8

•Friday, Dec. 13, p p.m. through end of service Sunday, Dec. 15

During the closure, we’ll be testing critical operating systems that run between the existing A Line and the future A Line that will boast new stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona — where riders can easily transfer between Metro and Metrolink’s San Bernardino Line. 

While we perform this work, a shuttle bus — named Line 851 — will replace rail service between Monrovia, Duarte/City of Hope, Irwindale, Azusa Downtown and APU/Citrus College stations. Shuttles will run every 10 to 20 minutes.

Where to catch the shuttle buses: 

Monrovia — Primrose Avenue & Pomona Avenue

Duarte/City of Hope — Duarte Road & Hope Drive

Irwindale — Avenida Padilla & Irwindale Road

Azusa Downtown — Bay 1

APU/Citrus College — Citrus Avenue at APU Station

We’ll have temporary signage to help riders find their way to the shuttles and Metro Ambassadors will also be deployed to impacted stations to assist customers. We appreciate your patience as we work to expand our system further into the San Gabriel Valley!

The A Line extension to Pomona is funded largely by the Measure M sales tax ballot measure approved by LA County voters in 2016. The project is being built by the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority and will be operated by Metro when complete. The current forecast opening is in 2025.
