We’re hosting community meetings in June to share more info on southern segment of West Santa Ana light rail project

Metro is hosting three more community meetings on June 12, 14, and 15 to update the public on work on the route for the southern segment of the West Santa Ana Branch light rail project.

The Metro Board of Directors last year selected a route from Pioneer Station in Artesia to the A Line’s Slauson Station as the locally preferred alternative for this section of the West Santa Ana project. The segment is under study as part of the project’s Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report, which is anticipated for release in spring 2024.

The 14.8-mile route between Artesia and the A Line features:

  • Nine stations (six at-grade, three aerial)
  • A new C Line where the West Santa Ana project crosses the 105 freeway
  • Up to five parking facilities
  • 31 at-grade crossings and 25 elevated street crossings
  • One maintenance and storage facility in the City of Bellflower

The community meetings will focus on design updates since the LPA was approved by the Board in Jan. 2022. There will be a presentation by staff, as well as an open house afterward for members of the public to engage in one-on-one discussions with staff and view roll plots, exhibit boards and an interactive map. See more details on the community meetings below.

The Board last year also approved Los Angeles Union Station as the final northern terminus. A Slauson-to-Union Station Segment Study will assess route options to connect the project to Union Station, address impacts, evaluate cost-effective project delivery methods and reassess station locations, including a station in Little Tokyo.

The study results are anticipated to be presented to the Metro Board in late summer 2023 — then expected to advance into a separate environmental planning process.

Overall this project would connect Artesia, Cerritos, Bellflower, Paramount, Downey, South Gate, Cudahy, Bell, Huntington Park, Vernon, unincorporated Florence-Firestone and downtown Los Angeles.

All meetings will offer the same information and will have a Spanish interpreter available as well as Spanish-speaking staff. In-person meetings will also provide a KidsCorner with fun activities.
