In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, Metro Art Presents and KJAZZ are teaming up for Jazz Tracks at Union Station on Sunday, April 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The performances take place on the Station’s historic outdoor patios. The concert is free of charge, open to all and no RSVP is required.
Hosted by KJAZZ DJs José Rizo and Rhonda Hamilton, the event will feature three diverse acts, each highlighting a different space in the station.
The line-up features Bobby Bradford and Friends, Sam Gendel/Blake Mills/Benny Bock and De Leon Division. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect and scroll down for a complete schedule:
South Patio
Legendary jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Bobby Bradford will lead a performance of his original work Stealin’ Home – A Jackie Robinson Suite, commissioned by the Baseball Reliquary in 2018— notable as this April is the 75th anniversary of Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier during Opening Day on April 15, 1947. Bobby Bradford and Friends will close out the day.
North Patio
Sam Gendel, Blake Mills and Benny Bock are Los Angeles-based musicians and producers. This is their first show together. Multi-instrumentalist Sam Gendel will perform on saxophone accompanied by guitarist Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, John Legend and Jim James) and keyboardist, composer, producer and sound designer Benny Bock.
South Patio + Waiting Room
De Leon Division will bring a dynamic seven-piece Latin jazz band, led by percussionist Joey De Leon and feature vocalist Maiya Sykes. They’ll kick things off with an opening set in the South Patio and follow up with a street-music-style rumba pop-up in the Waiting Room.
