Service Advisory: buses replace C Line (Green) service between Vermont/Athens and Long Beach Blvd this weekend

Weekend rail service on the C Line (Green) will be suspended between Vermont/Athens and Long Beach Blvd Station due to signal system upgrades starting at 9 p.m. Friday, May 14 to Sunday, May 16 close of service.

The following rail stations will be closed: Harbor Freeway, Avalon and Willowbrook/Rosa Parks.

This means eastbound trains will run as far as Vermont/Athens and turn back towards Redondo Beach. Westbound trains will run as far as Long Beach Blvd and turn back to Norwalk.

Service will be maintained with free bus shuttles between Vermont/Athens and Long Beach Blvd Station.

Metro staff will be on hand to lend assistance at all C Line stations where bus shuttles are running. Please allow extra travel time for your trip. Regular service to all stations will resume at start of service Monday, May 17.

In addition to the signal system work being done this weekend, staff will also be closing a redundant entrance at Hawthorne/Lennox Station as it no longer leads to a public lot. Signage will be placed to direct riders to the other station entrances.

Thank you for your patience as Metro continues to improve your ride. Follow us on Twitter @metrolaalerts for the latest service updates. For routes and schedule information, visit Metro.net or call 323.GOMETRO.

  1. Hi Metro,

In practical terms, what does it mean to upgrade signal systems? For example, how will the new systems improve riders’ or operators’ experiences?
