UPDATE: Metro train operator shot early Friday; Indiana Station has reopened

UPDATE, 12:40 p.m. Friday: Metro is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest. Regular L Line service has resumed.

UPDATE, 9:20 a.m.: up to 10 minute delays on the L Line in East LA. Trains bypass Indiana Station and share one track at Mariachi Plaza and Soto. Use Line 30 for access.

At approximately 4:10 a.m. this morning, a lone gunman fired multiple shots at a Metro Rail operator at the Indiana Platform on the Metro L Line in East Los Angeles. The operator was struck twice and taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Metro Security and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, with the support of the Los Angeles Police Department, are on the scene and are now actively searching for the suspect. Law enforcement has enhanced its presence on the system.

Indiana station is currently closed. L Line (Gold) trains are turning back at Soto and Maravilla Stations. Metro is directing passengers to take Metro Bus Line 30 to their routes until further notice.

This was a brazen act of violence against a defenseless Metro operator. Metro will continue to support the Operator and family; and will do everything it can in working with law enforcement to search for and apprehend the perpetrator.  Metro and law enforcement seek the public’s help in providing any information leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information that will assist in the investigation of this crime is urged to call Metro Security at 888-950-SAFE.

  1. Just my opinion but there are two sides of a story. You know i have come across a lot of drivers being racist and discriminating. Some times the driver starts a fight with the person by stopping the Bus threating not go any further.
I was attacked on a bus one time and metro says it’s a police matter and when i call and the police show up they say it’s a metro matter.
Hec sometimes the would shut the door on me when I’m trying to get on one it caused a scratch and a little blood on my arm and they don’t even apologize.

  2. Metro doesn’t care, the cops don’t do anything. They don’t keep us safe, metro employee are walking targets everyday. Metro security is always sleeping in there vehicles or hiding near by. Protect the people. Metro, ceo let the cops do their job.

  3. Time for bullet proof glass on all trains and buses. And all buses no mater what their age a closed cage around the Bus Operator. Let us not forget the tragedy of the Bus Operator on the 105 or 705 line murdered just west of Division 7 a few years ago.

  4. I’m not so much worried about judges but the new D.A. was supported by Soros and the ultra left who believe criminals can do no wrong, they are just misunderstood.

  5. Praying for a quick recovery. The world has gone crazy. What will our new DA and Judges do when caught?

    • The new DA will, probabily, just dismiss the charges and nothing will happen. Look, he’s from San Francisco, home of the crazy’s. This shooter needs to be made an example of. Extreemly swift justes, and then a 3 x 3 cell, for say 30 years.
