Metro makes adjustments to its bus service twice a year — in June and December with this round of changes taking effect with the start of service on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Route changes will take place on the following lines:
94 & 794 – Due to the recent completion of the Empire Interchange Project in the City of Burbank, Lines 94 and 794 will revert to their original route which continues on Empire Av and serves a segment of San Fernando Bl. The new, more direct route, may also provide travel time improvements.
154 & 164 – The Burbank Bl bridge over the I-5 Freeway will be closed for reconstruction beginning early 2020. When the closure begins, Lines 154 and 165 will be rerouted down Victory Pl – Magnolia Av and resume their regular routes on First St. New stops will be placed along the detour route.
165 – Due to the recent completion of the Empire Interchange Project in the City of Burbank, Line 165 will revert to its original route which continues on Empire Av and serves a segment of San Fernando Bl. The new, more direct route, may also provide travel time improvements.
456 – Bus service will continue to operate between 7th/Metro Center station and Long Beach Station making stops at Pico Station, LATTC/Ortho Institute Station, Wardlow Station, Willow Station, and all of the Downtown Long Beach A Line stations. The new service will operate 4 trips in the AM every 30 minutes starting at 6am from Downtown Long Beach and 4 trips in the PM every 30 minutes starting at 4:15pm from Downtown Los Angeles. Why not extend Rapid 780 to La Cienega Expo Line Station as the local counterpart did (#217)?!??!!??!!! This is 7 1/2 years overdue!
Im asking myself this as well. At first I was like “Well, the 720 and 780 are already the longest routes of the system outside the Silver Line” but considering its only a 2 mile MAX extension well, yeah, this is much overdue. Again, who on earth is in charge here and overseeing things like this.
Great job sneaking in service cuts.Trips are cut every single time a new schedule is published without it being advertised. Here’s just a sample of what i found in 15 minutes of searching. 601: down 7+ trips on weekdays 258 down 1 weekday NB and SB trip. 344 down 1 weekday northbound trip 757: down 1 weekday NB & SB trips. 760: down 3 weekday NB trips, down 4 weekday SB trips. Metro, PLEASE, be more transparent about your service cuts!
Your asking for too much Michael.
Just a minor nitpick, in the listing for “24-hour Owl Service” (https://www.metro.net/riding/maps/owl/), some lines with 24-hour service are not listed, namely the 233 (Van Nuys Blvd), 246 (Avalon Blvd), & 901 (Orange Line).
Cancel the 456. What’s the point of it? Use the A line, and if those people are “afraid” as they claim, then stay home you hermits.
The 456 is a waste of a service, use those bus hours/trips for improvements on the 910/950 or somewhere else.
In a way how is it fair to those such as the Gold Line riders from Azusa/Pasadena to sit through all that turmoil on board as well and not have an express?
Come on Metro, think with your heads for once.
Steve, Anna.. thoughts?
Have you even rode the “A” Line yet?
I agree 100 percent! What makes them so special? Metro spent millions of our tax dollars to fix the A (Blue) Line and continue to spend additional money in addition to what they fixed? Makes no sense whatsoever.
Why not restore the 450 to San Pedro? The 950 makes too many stops for such a long bus route and it will eliminate overcrowding on the 910/950.
The Problem with the 950 is that, that was supposed to be the “Silver Line Express,” yet it makes every single stop the Silver Line makes. It’s effectively pointless to have 2 numbering routes when 1 number and having every other bus short line solves the issue here. Just pick 5-6 of the busiest stops along the freeway and downtown + Limited stops in San Pedro and problem solved. The fact that Metro even oversaw this is just another example on why no one takes our system seriously.
Hi Steve,
I just want to point out a couple of issues on the fares.
On the webpage showing Metro fares, there is a bullet point:
• Add’l 50¢ charge for a transfer to non-Metro buses within 2.5 hrs.
That is wrong. The fare is not necessarily 50¢, because the 2nd boarding fare depends on what bus we board. For example, using TAP stored value, if the 1st boarding is Metro bus, and the eligible 2nd boarding is Montebello bus, then the transfer fare is 25¢ (the correct transfer fare amount charged by Montebello bus).
For the 400- and 500- series bus lines timetables, since some years ago, there is only the phrase “Additional fare may be required for travel on freeway. Please call 1.323.GOMETRO for more information.”
Metro used to print the zone fares details directly on the timetables for those lines. It will be very helpful to bring that back.
Whomever ‘updated’ the Fares and Transfer information on the Metro website does not seem to understand how the fares and transfers work. As you note, transfers are not outbound but inbound. On the Senior fare info they get the value wrong. it is $0.25 not $.50 as indicated. They also do not get what the express fares for Seniors are. $0.60 not $0.75 as listed.
Somebody who understands Metro Fares and Transfers should proofread these pages.
The other 3 discounted fares have similar issues.
