With the busy Thanksgiving travel week ahead, Los Angeles World Airports announced today that it would be offering passengers flying to LAX a free ride on Metro, Big Blue Bus, Culver City Bus and Torrance Transit buses beginning Sunday, Nov. 24, through Monday, Dec. 2. The airport also announced expanded FlyAway service; see below.

A record number of people are expected to be traveling this year and the airport is already very busy. The free rides and expanded service are being offered to give those leaving LAX more options.

The free rides are for those boarding buses at the City Bus Center or the Green Line’s Aviation Station. A boarding pass from your flight serves as your train or bus ticket — there is no need to TAP on validators on buses or at rail stations. You can plan transit trips via the Metro Trip Planner or, alternatively, at Google Maps. The Metro bus and rail system map is here.

Arriving passengers should take the free LAX C Shuttle to the City Bus Center or the LAX G Shuttle to the Green Line’s Aviation Station. The shuttles can be found on the lower arrival levels at areas marked by the “LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections” sign.

The Green Line light rail runs between Redondo Beach Station and Norwalk and connects to the Silver Line bus and the Metro A Line (Blue) train, among other bus lines.

Among the buses serving the LAX City Bus Center:

•The Metro 102 that runs north to the Expo Line and then southeast to South Gate. Map and timetable here.

•The Metro 111 that runs east — mostly on Florence Avenue — to Norwalk. Map and timetable here.

•The Metro 117 that runs east — initially on Century Boulevard — to Lynwood. Map and timetable here.

•The Metro 232 that runs south — mostly along Pacific Coast Highway — to downtown Long Beach. Map and timetable here

•The Metro 40 Owl that between 1 a.m. and 4:23 a.m. runs east to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. Map and timetable here.

•The Big Blue Bus 3 that runs south to the Green Line’s Aviation Station and north — mostly along Lincoln Boulevard — to downtown Santa Monica. Map and timetable here.

•The Culver City Rapid 6 that runs south to the Green Line’s Aviation Station and north — mostly on Sepulveda Boulevard — to UCLA in Westwood. Map and timetable here.

Below is the info from LAX on expanded FlyAway bus service — including Union Station, the hub of Southern California’s public transit system.

Also during the busy Thanksgiving holidays, LAWA is increasing the frequency of FlyAway bus service during peak hours and is adding “Holiday Shuttle” service to Santa Monica and Century City. The increased service will nearly double the service to Hollywood and Long Beach while providing more buses per hour on the Van Nuys and Union Station routes during the busiest times of day, between Sunday, Nov. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 3.

• Van Nuys: Four buses per hour from Van Nuys to LAX from 4:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily; four buses per hour from LAX to Van Nuys from 11 a.m. to midnight daily. The Van Nuys route operates 24/7, with hourly service in the early morning hours (12-3 a.m.). This is doubling frequency during peak hours.

• Union Station: Three buses per hour in each direction from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The Union Station route operates 24/7, with regular service every half hour except hourly in the early morning hours (1-5 a.m.). This is an addition of one trip per hour during peak periods.

• Hollywood: Two buses per hour in each direction between noon and 9 p.m. daily. Buses operate from 1627 N. Vine St. in Hollywood to LAX starting at 5:15 a.m. until 9:15 p.m., and travel from LAX to Hollywood starting at 6:15 a.m. until 10:15 p.m., and will continue to operate hourly during non-peak times. This is a doubling of service during peak hours.

• Long Beach: Two buses per hour in each direction between 12:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. daily. Buses operate from Shelter A at the Long Beach Travel Gallery on First Street to LAX starting at 5:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., and travel from LAX to Long Beach starting at 5:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., and will continue to operate hourly during non-peak times. This is a doubling of service during peak hours.

Fares range from $8 to $9.75 one way. Service from Union Station and Van Nuys is available 24 hours a day, with parking available at both locations. LAX HOLIDAY SHUTTLE — DIRECT TO SANTA MONICA AND CENTURY CITY: 
Starting this Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4 a.m., and continuing through the end of the day on Monday, Dec. 2, the LAX Holiday Shuttle will take guests directly between LAX and locations in Century City and Santa Monica. It will operate between 3:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., and pickup and drop-off guests once per hour per location. At LAX, the holiday shuttle will pick up passengers from the dedicated bus lane on the inner curb of the lower/arrivals level at the “Pink” LAX Shuttle stops. At the Santa Monica and Century City locations, guests will find the shuttle stops at a parking lot, with a dedicated staff member to help them find and pay for their shuttle ride. The fare for a ride is $10 each way and a schedule for the service from each location will be shared on social media and at www.flylax.com.
