New TAP wrist band will be available starting today

Blue TAP Flex wrist band.

Wear your fare! TAP is launching a new line of products called TAP wearables. These include the TAP Flex wrist bands, which will be available at all Metro Customer Centers beginning Aug. 5, 2019.

TAP Flex wrist bands are made of silicone and are available in black or blue. TAP wearables function just like a regular TAP card — you can load Stored Value and passes onto it, and register it online at taptogo.net. TAP Flex can be used on any agency that accepts TAP.

Reload your TAP Flex online at taptogo.net, by calling 866.TAPTOGO, at over 450 TAP vendor locations and at all TAP vending machines.

TAP Flex costs $10 and is only available at Metro Customer Centers. Quantities are limited.

Additional TAP wearables will be released later in August. These include TAP Stretch wrist bands, made of elastic fabric, and TAP Mini keychain fobs. Stay tuned for details!

  1. Are the wrist bands only available for $10 and what does that cover one day or how many days cause if it’s only for one day I rather stick to my tap card like always

    • Hi Angelica,

They are $10 and are reusable the same as a regular TAP card.

      Thank you,

      • It’s $10 just for the wrist band, without any fare loaded on it. If you want to add fares or a day pass that is extra

    • Hi,

Yes, the chips will expire in 7 to 10 years.

      • Check this Anna please, as the one I got expires in 2024. I believe it even states this fact on the packaging.

  2. Why only available at Metro Customer Centers? We should be able to get them at any metro station or online.

    • Hi Andrea,

At this time due to limited quantities, they are only being sold at Customer Centers. Thank you.

  3. Pls consider creating a app for current Smart Watches like the Samsung Gear S3, Samsung Active watches & Apple watches. I’d love to be able to TAP my Samsung Gear S3 when I board just like when I pay for anything else with it. Not only is it always with me but it would create less waste with people losing there key chains or wrist bands. Or less waste because of expiring key chains and wrist bands. I’d just like choice to use existing tech and all the above. Looking forward to that future.

  4. And how long until they expire like TAP cards?

When will the implantable TAP tracking chips come out?

    • I’m curious about expiration date as well. TAP Cards were 2-3 years? I hope the wristband don’t expire. $10 is kind of steep. We’re getting close to DisneyWorld armband prices @ $10.

      • Hi,

TAP cards and wearables expire approximately 7 to 10 years from date of manufacture. You can check the expiry date by registering online at taptogo.net or at any TAP vending machine.

        Thank you,

  5. Why not just have a smaller TAP card that fits on a key-chain? Lots of stores give out key-chain sized cards.

However don’t ever expect me to pay more for a card.

    • Hi,

At this time this can only be used as a regular TAP card. Staff is working on versions that can support reduced fare passes.

      Thank you,

      • This would be perfect for seniors who forget to put their cards away after tapping them.

        • And disabled people who can’t rummage through their bags, if they’re using canes, devices, or have difficulty with their wallets

  6. What are the red light barcode readers under the TAP RF readers for? Is TAP preparing for a smartphone QR code pass?

    • Hi Victor;

Those might be the readers for Metrolink. That said, TAP is working on a smartphone app that will allow you to pass through the gates. We’re not sure the launch date yet — but likely to be sooner rather than later, we hope.

      • Yes, the red barcode scanners are for Metrolink tickets. The above photo could be from either Union Station or 7th St.
