From intimate concerts in the beautiful North Patio of Union Station to a celebration of the storied station’s 80th anniversary, here’s your guide to the many Metro Art events happening in May.
Friday, May 3: Participation in Union Station 80th Anniversary celebration, including music performances by the California Feetwarmers (1:30 – 2:30 p.m.) and the New Recessionaries (3 – 4 p.m.) in the station’s waiting room.
Saturday, May 4: Union Station 80th Anniversary celebration continues, including tours of artwork at the station 10 – 10:30 a.m. and 11 – 11:30 a.m. Meet in East Portal by the aquarium. Plus a range of music and other performances throughout the station. Visit here and here for details.
Saturday, May 4: Art tour of Hollywood rail stations from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the street level entrance to North Hollywood Station (Red Line).
Sunday, May 5: Art tour of downtown rail stations from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the Union Station information kiosk near the Alameda Street entrance.
Saturday, May 11: Art tour of Downtown rail stations (en Español) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at the Union Station information kiosk near the Alameda Street entrance.
Sunday, May 12: Art & Architecture Tour of Union Station from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at the Union Station information kiosk near the Alameda Street entrance.
Sunday, May 19: Join us as we welcome artists Sudan Moon, Ami Dang, Ana Roxane, and Sam Gendel for an afternoon concert in the Union Station North Patio from 1 to 4 p.m., part of a collaboration with Leaving Records.
Friday, May 24: We’re taking things on the road as Metro Art Presents Jazz at LACMA, featuring Otmaro Ruiz from 6 to 8 p.m., part of a special partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (stay tuned next month as LACMA presents jazz at Union Station).
Friday, May 31: A little closer to home, Metro Art Presents the Susie Hansen Latin Band at El Pueblo de Los Angeles from 10 a.m. to noon, part of the Raised on Records series with Metro’s On the Move Riders Club.
