It’s March and spring is just around the corner. As temperatures start to warm, additional NextGen workshops continue across L.A. County throughout the month. Attend a workshop to provide your input on the NextGen Bus Study and meet Regional Service Councils staff who will be in attendance. Raffles are conducted at every workshop; you could be the next lucky winner of a free transit pass. The workshop dates, times, and locations are available here; more information about the study is also at the link.
All Council meetings this month will hear updates on Metro’s U-Pass Program, the discount college student TAP pass program, and the Public Participation Plan. The Federal Transit Administration requires Metro to issue a Public Participation Plan (Plan) as part of its Title VI Program Update every three years. The Plan guides all of Metro’s outreach to gather public input on possible changes to bus and rail service, new projects in planning and in construction, fares and other programs. As the San Fernando Valley hosted a NextGen workshop with their last meeting, this month they’ll receive the 2nd Quarter Station Evaluation Report. San Fernando and Westside/Central will also receive a Sepulveda Transit Corridor Update.
The Service Council meetings provide residents with opportunities to make comments about service issues in their service areas and learn about Metro’s regional projects and programs. The meetings are listed below with their respective agenda items in order of occurrence. Council agendas are posted monthly with links to presentation materials here at least three days before the meeting. Why the hell make the student pass program so complicated? Make it only available for full time students at accreted colleges, no some fly by night trade school, and insure the pass holder is enrolled and is passing their classes each month in order to qualify.
As presented, one could enroll in classes at LACC, receive their student pass sticker and never show up for their classes.
the MTA should not take part in some social experiment disguised as a reduced fare program. Student passes are not a new concept, they have been around well before my days in school over 70 years ago.
