Metro’s Rail Safety Orientation Tour Program is a hands-on approach offered to schools within a half-mile radius of the Blue, Expo, and Gold lines.
Tours are met by one of our staff members (a tour docent) at Union Station, where the docent will provide facts about Union Station and the East Portal. The docent will then take the students on the Red/Purple Line subway to Civic Center, where the children will visit and learn historical facts about City Hall and the other city and county buildings. At the end of the tour, the group will have access to travel anywhere on the Metro system.
The requesting school must first host a Rail Safety Presentation at their school prior to requesting any trips.
Watch the video above to hear Morri Edith Spang’s experience with the program. Morri is a fourth grade teacher at San Pedro Street Elementary School and has found the free trips to be a great resource for her and her students.
If you are a teacher interested in requesting a field trip for your class, please contact Metro’s Community Education at transitsafetypgm@metro.net to receive more information.
