A note from Metro CEO Phil Washington on DACA

Metro CEO Phillip A. Washington sent the following to Metro staff earlier today:

Dear Metro Family:

Today, the Trump Administration announced an end to the Deferred Action for Children Arrivals, better known as DACA or the Dreamers Program.

I write this personal email to you not as a political statement or with any attempt to make or take a political stand on the issue.  Rather as the servant-CEO that I am, and understanding that there may be Dreamers who are members of the Metro family and for sure Dreamers that we all know and love, I say don’t fret or feel disenchanted and sad. We will do all we can to provide excellence in service and support and if there are those who need to discuss this announcement, we will point you in the right direction to speak with counselors or support personnel.

Keep the faith and know that we will support our Metro Family.

We will continue to march and be tolerant and respectful of everyone (that includes our own employees and public transit riders alike).

Sincerely,

Phillip A. Washington

  1. LA is the city of dreams but also the city of Dreamers; Metro and their brass understand that.

  2. If Mr. Washington’s statement is “grandstanding” then I stand with him, along with Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez and etc. The only real “Americans” (incidentally an Italian name) are the so-called “American Indians”. All non-Indians are immigrants, of one form or another, and should speak humbly because a fair rent has yet to be paid for the land taken from these First Americans. PS: And wash your mouth out while you are at it!
