This is a bit on the procedural side but still a nice little milestone: Metro on Wednesday issued a “notice to proceed” to Tutor Perini/O & G to begin work building the second section of the Purple Line Extension between Wilshire/La Cienega Station and Century City. The section will also include a station in downtown Beverly Hills serving Rodeo Drive.
Metro awarded the contract to Tutor Perini/O & G to build the project in January. Pre-construction will continue this year with major construction expected to begin in 2018 and completion no later than 2026 as per the agency’s agreement with the Federal Transit Administration. With the passage of Measure M, the agency has said it is aiming to finish the entire subway to Westwood by 2024 and in time for a potential 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Purple Line Extension’s first section is under construction between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/La Cienega. Metro is scheduled to release a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) on portions of section two later this year. The SEIS will not impact the project schedule.
Here are a couple of pages from a recent project fact sheet:

So a notice to proceed is procedural? Who’da thunk it!

Agreed, too bad the entrances/exits are only one side
Wait, so the “Wilshire/Rodeo” station is actually three blocks away from Wilshire at Rodeo? That’s confusing at best; moreover, it’s misleading. “Rodeo Drive” would be a less misleading name, as the proposed name states an actual intersection (that the station is not at).

It kind of stinks that Metro only plans to have one entrance for each of these purple line stations. Multiple entrances/exits would just be too convenient for the passengers I guess.
I couldn’t agree with this comment more. There is a great opportunity to make these stations work to maximum effectiveness and its being squandered.
