This Weekend: Bus shuttles replace Red Line between Hollywood/Highland and Vermont/Sunset

Installation of cell service equipment and necessary maintenance work will take place this Friday evening and Saturday on the Red Line. This will require a full track closure, with bus shuttles replacing trains between Vermont/Sunset and Hollywood/Highland Stations.

Starting from Friday, March 17 at 9 p.m. to Saturday, March 18 close of service, all westbound Red Line trains will travel as far as Vermont/Sunset and turn back towards Union Station. The last stop for all eastbound trains will be Hollywood/Highland Station. From there, trains will turn back to North Hollywood.

Rail service is slated to run as follows:

  •  Every 20 minutes during the day between North Hollywood and Hollywood/Highland
  • Every 12-15 minutes during the day between Vermont/Sunset and Union Station
  • Every 20 minutes after 8:30 p.m.

Red Line riders traveling between Vermont/Sunset, Hollywood/Western, Hollywood/Vine and Hollywood/Highland can board free Metro bus shuttles, planned to match rail service levels as best as possible throughout the day. Some customers may also want to consider Line 217 or Rapid 780 between Hollywood/Western and Hollywood/Vine to avoid transferring to Red Line bus shuttles.

We realize the closure is an inconvenience for many and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Subway cell service work has been in progress for the past year and this work will soon allow more customers to make calls and surf the web while riding below ground. Metro personnel will be on hand and happy to assist at all Red Line stations impacted by the work. Normal Red Line train service will resume Sunday morning.

  1. Oh Wonderfull!!! Internet for The Homless to Jack Off Too and Look at Porn and Laugh Now they will never leave the train and smell it up even more…SAD!!!!

    • Hi Adam,

This should be the last closure in regards to this project for the foreseeable future. There may be other closures required as we advance to Phase 3 past Hollywood, but that would be later in the year.

  2. what time is the last train from Vermont/ Santa Monica to make it back to 7MC on time for the last blue line train to Long beach??
That is the one thing I wish they would publish when they do these closures, its always a guessing game if I am going to be able to get back home or not!

    • Hi Daniel,

On Friday nights, the last eastbound trip is scheduled to leave Vermont/Santa Monica at 2:17 a.m. and arrives at 7th/Metro at 2:26 a.m. The last Blue Line trip to Long Beach leaves 7th/Metro at 2:30 a.m. Train times are approximate, so please allow extra travel time. Hope this helps!

      • the last blue line train or the last blue line train to downtown long beach? usually the last blue line train to long beach is at 210AM.

He’s not kidding on this last part either. Trains are definitely not likely to leave on time on the Red Line but will continue to do so on the rest of the rail lines so I’d such catching the 2nd last train in these circumstances. I am amazed why the rest of the system run on a minor delay, at least on the final train runs for the night.
