Meatless Mondays with Metro: ediBOL

The BOLicious

Take a little more transit and eat a little less meat — two things you can do to reduce your environmental impact. In this installment of Meatless Mondays with Metro we return to the Arts District in DTLA for ediBOL.

ediBOL is one of those places that serves deceptively simple food. At first glance, it seems like kind of a fancy place to visit for what amounts to a rice bowl, but each bowl — or BOL — comes packed with a melange of flavors and fresh ingredients. During my visit I tried the BOLicious, and to be completely honest I felt like there were almost too many flavors between the seared greens, pickled tomatoes and relish. But if you eat slowly (which I’m told I should, since gobbling food is bad for digestion?) you can work through it and come to appreciate the various elements of each BOL.

I will also say: you can make the BOLicious vegan if you get it without the egg, but the egg was my favorite part. The crispy fried poached egg is something I haven’t eaten anywhere else, and if you eat eggs you should definitely try it.

While ediBOL isn’t an entirely vegan/veggie restaurant, most of their BOLs can easily be made vegan, and they have a really good veggie side selection that’s more than just “mixed greens.” To get to their Arts District location, you can use Metro Bike Share. There’s a station at 3rd and Santa Fe, and from there it’s a short stroll south on Santa Fe Avenue. You can also walk from the Gold Line Little Tokyo/Arts District Station if you aren’t in a hurry and feel like exploring the area a bit more.

Got other recommendations for vegan/veggie restaurants? Let me know in the comments!
