Go Metro to Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair

It may still be February but it’s already starting to feel like spring, and we all know spring is when the best book fairs are held. Kicking off the season of book fairs is Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair, happening this weekend at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.

LA Art Book Fair is free to attend. The event features books, catalogs, zines and more presented by more than 300 international booksellers, artists and independent publishers. And if you feel like visiting MOCA while at the book fair, show your TAP card to receive 2-for-1 general admission!

Event hours are:

  • Friday, Feb. 24, 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 25, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb 26, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To get to the LA Art Book Fair, take the Gold Line to Little Tokyo/Arts District Station. You can pick up a TAP card at any Metro Rail station for $1, and one-way fare is $1.75 with 2 hours of free transfers. There’s also a Metro Bike Share station right around the corner from MOCA Geffen, and the cost for a 30-minute ride is $3.50.

Make a day of the outing by grabbing lunch in Little Tokyo — some of my personal favorite places to grab a meal include Suehiro CaféSpinfish Poké House and Kagura, all less than a five-minute walk from MOCA Geffen. If you’re of a mind to continue supporting literacy, hop on the Gold Line towards East LA to Mariachi Plaza Station and visit Libros Schmibros Lending Library. And if you’re in need some dessert after hitting up the book fair, visit Honeymee…or take the Gold Line towards Azusa and exit Highland Park Station for Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, home of the cruffin.
