Specifically, no fare will be charged starting 9 p.m. tonight (Dec. 24) until 2 a.m. Friday morning (Dec. 25). All Metro Rail Line Stations with latched gates will be unlatched during this time.

Metro buses and trains are running a regular weekday schedule today. Buses and trains will run on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day. Timetables for all bus and rail lines are here.

Click here for more info about Metro Rail service on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. We’ll post more next week about using Metro to get to the Tournament of Roses parade and Rose Bowl game.

A regular one-way fare is $1.75 and includes transfers to other Metro lines for up to two hours to complete a one-way trip. A $7 Day Pass covers unlimited travel starting on date of purchase until 3 a.m. the next morning.

  1. The free rides do not apply to other muni agencies so you still need a tap card loaded either with cash or with a pass that is good for the munis.

    Why can Metro extend the free rides program to 4:00 am like previous years. Many people are still partying at 2 am.

    • Hi Jay;

      If traveling between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. tonight, no TAP card is necessary.

      Any other time, yes you need to pay a fare with your TAP card in order to get the free transfers. There are no more paper transfers.

      • Well, you should have told that to the driver of the #30 line heading East. I got on the bus at Union Ave at 9:35 P.M. and was charged.

        • There were no special fares. There were free fares on Xmas Eve from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Xmas Day.
