This is a continuation of the ongoing testing program. Please be careful around trains, especially on the street-running segment along Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica.
And before you ask…no, we don’t have an opening date for the 6.6-mile extension to Santa Monica yet, but it should be in the first half of 2016.
Here’s the latest testing notice:

Why hasn’t Metro set up an opening date yet? Why does it have to take so long? Come on and open up the line it shouldn’t take so long Someone at metro isn’t doing their job if the line is running behind schedule mate!! The line shal open up on 16 April 2016 on 16/4/2016 Metro sucks!! Merry Christmas
Why hasn’t Metro set up an opening date yet? it shouldnt take so long! People should be sick of sitting in traffic Come on get it together mate someone at Metro isn’t doing their job!! Metro sucks!! April 16, 2016 shall be the opening date it can’t be that hard to test trains on the line and open it up soon people in Europe and Asia would be laughing at us Merry Christmas
The project has yet to be handed over from the agency that built it — the Expo Line Construction Authority — to Metro. That should happen soon. Bottom line: the project will open when everything is complete and all the employee training is done and the equipment is thoroughly tested and broken in. Folks can talk all they want about any particular date but it’s not coming from Metro and readers shouldn’t take it seriously.

If Metro can get it ready April 16, 2016 I will be extremely surprised, given the lead time between announcement of a date and actual opening for the Foothill Gold Line. The only firm date is June 26, 2016, because if the line opens past then Metro will have to reconfigure service and run buses on temporary letters because that is the scheduled June shakeup date, and Metro agreed to reduce bus service in Santa Monica when Expo opened. http://www.smgov.net/departments/council/agendas/2015/20150428/s2015042809-A.htm
@Steve Hymon why have you deleted previous comments left by other public transport enthusiasts? It’s absolutely absurd for you to do so!! I will have to start my own blog I love and fully support public transport but Metro must re think things! Service to Santa Monica Pier Sceduled to open on April 16, 2016 Contact your Expo Construction Authority and Metro and tell them to OPEN Service on the Expo Line to Santa Monica in April 2016 on 4/16/16!! The Line Shall Open Up Shrotly please be patient while we finish testing and practice run our trains!

Can’t wait for Train Service to the beach!! This is a major milestone for LA! Next Stop Santa Monica Pier Station!
I imagine the post you reference was not published because it included the quote,
“Finally I’ll be able to catch a train to the beach! Expo Express Train Service with New Clean, Fast, Efficient, Modern Kinkisharyo Metro Light Rail Fleet to Santa Monica Pier Station to open up in Spring 2016 on April 16, 2016 4/16/16!! Save the date LA”
As Steve stated before, the opening date has not yet been determined, and comments like that can be very confusing to other readers here. We at Metro appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm for this light rail extension, and look forward to seeing you all on opening day. We will make sure to update and inform all of you the second the opening date has been set.

Anybody inclined to play chicken with a moving train should consider mass, velocity, momentum, and kinetic energy.
Lance Mako Linden: who told you that April 16, 2016 will be the opening date?
Can’t wait for train service to Santa Monica!!
• Never walk on the train tracks
• Never go around lowered gates
• Obey all warning signs
• Watch for trains from both directions
Just stupid!! See my comment on the Gold Line extention.
In related local news, Santa Monica plans to put up fencing along the at-grade segment on Colorado Ave as a safety measure to keep people off the tracks. Apparently it was seen as unnecessary when the subject came up 4 years ago:
