Closing the gender gap: Metro hosting female-focused construction networking event Nov. 17

A study from the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) last year found that more than 97 percent of construction workers on the average crew were male — roughly the same as 30 years ago — despite the fact that women make up 47.2 percent of the workforce. This is a disappointing number and one that Metro hopes to change as more transit-related construction jobs are created.

Metro will be hosting Women Build Metro, a female-focused construction networking event that will provide an opportunity for women interested in construction industry careers and would like to be a part of the team that will build the transportation infrastructure for the future.

Event details:

DATE: Tuesday, Nov. 17
TIME: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
LOCATION: Los Angeles Trade Technical College

Hear from women who have found success in construction and meet recruiters from trade unions, construction firms, construction-related businesses, pre-apprenticeship training programs and prime contractors. Training coordinators will also be on hand to accept applications and to speak directly to women who attend the event. All are welcome to attend and participate.

LATTC is located at 400 W. Washington Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90015. Public transit is encouraged as parking will be limited. The Metro Blue Line Grand Station is right outside the venue. Plan your trip here.
