[…] Take a Tour of the Gold Line Foothill’s Operations Campus (The Source) […]
I went and was extremely pleased by the size of the crowd still there at 11:30 and later.
What is the MTA going to do with the current Gold Line Yard?
Metro hasn’t said anything yet AFAIK, but in the short term they may use it for overnight layovers of trains ending their late night shift in east LA – why deadhead all the way to Monrovia? After the regional connector is in service, the east-west line may need it for the same purpose.
Hi Fine7760;
The plan is to keep it open as the space will eventually needed. The long-range plan at this time is to eventually run three-car trains on the Gold Line. The Regional Connector will allow Metro to run more frequent trains between Santa Monica-East L.A. and Long Beach-Azusa. And, of course, Metro’s long range plan includes an extension of the Gold Line to Claremont. That project is not funded at this time. But if built it would require a lot more trains. In short, that’s why each rail project requires a maintenance yard. The plan is to run a lot more trains in the future and Metro needs space to store them, maintain them and clean them, etc.
