One of 80 panels comprising the artwork by Christine Ulke in the process of installation at Division 13 Bus Maintenance and Operations Facility. The artwork will improve the quality of a high visibility street intersection across the street from Union Station.
A sycamore is emerging at the corner of Vignes and Cesar Chavez. But this is not its first appearance. Art installation began Monday at the Division 13 Bus Maintenance and Operations Facility adjacent to Union Station.
Artist Christine Ulke’s artwork concept for the exterior facade of the building commemorates an iconic sycamore tree that stood for approximately 400 years three blocks south of the building site. This majestic tree returns as a series of luscious graphite drawings laminated to polycarbonate panels. The final artwork, titled El Aliso de Los Angeles, will be illuminated from within.
