Congratulations to Metro artist Michael C. McMillen on his 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship! Michael created the artwork Geologica 42 for Fillmore Station along the Gold Line, which opened in 2003. Guggenheim Fellowships are awarded to those who demonstrate exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. Metro Art is proud to have worked with so many accomplished artists over the years. At last count, we have 19 Guggenheim Fellows among our roster of talented artists!

About Geologica 42, Michael shared: “The tower serves to identify the entrance to the station platform and provides an animated and engaging visual interpretation of time and culture, combining artifacts and symbols both natural and manufactured, interlinked and mutually dependent. The tower can be interpreted as a meditation on the evolving nature of geology, time, language, habitat, and culture.
