Bus detours for Armenian March for Justice; use the Red Line to reach the march

The Armenian March for Justice is Friday and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, with 50,000 participants expected. The March for Justice begins at Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue in Hollywood and concludes near Wilshire Boulevard and Crescent Heights Boulevard.

Street closures will begin at 8 a.m. and could last through 6 p.m. Similar to the L.A. Marathon, street closures will be lifted as the march progresses down the route.

The following lines will be detoured: the 2, the 20 and 720 on Wilshire Boulevard and the 212/312. Please see the detours listed at the bottom of this post. The 302 and the 780 Lines will run their regular routes but will likely be delayed as they must wait to cross streets where the march is taking place.

Those participating in the march can use the Metro Red Line subway — the beginning of the march is about a .3 mile walk from the Hollywood/Western Station.

The map below by march organizers shows Metro station locations and parking near the beginning of the march. There is also parking for $6 available at Union Station — from there take a Red Line train toward North Hollywood and exit at Hollywood/Western Station.

For those coming from the Burbank and Glendale areas: please note that parking lots at both the North Hollywood and Universal/Studio City stations usually fill up early in the morning. Please consider taking a bus or taxi to those stations. You can use the Metro Trip Planner or Google Trip Planner to help plan your trip.

Below is the map of the Metro and Metrolink system. A regular Metro fare is $1.75 and allows for two hours of free transfers as long as you use a TAP card. TAP cards cost $1 and can be purchased with fares at ticket machines at all Metro Rail Stations. Senior fares (those 62 and over) are 35 cents between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. until close. Senior fares are 75 cents prior to 9 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. More information on fares can be found here.
