Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority to host six community open houses starting April 16

The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority will host six community open houses to discuss the Foothill Gold Line light rail project from Azusa to Montclair. This section of the project is in Metro’s long-range plan but is currently unfunded.

The first open house will take place Thursday, April 16 in La Verne from 6 to 8 p.m.

Here is the notice from the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority:

The Foothill Gold Line from Azusa to Montclair is a 12.3-mile extension of the Metro Gold Line light rail system that currently runs between Los Angeles and Pasadena (a six-station extension from Pasadena to Azusa is currently nearing completion). The Azusa to Montclair extension will include six future stations in the cities of Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont and Montclair, and is now undergoing advanced design.

The Construction Authority anticipates that funding for the Azusa to Montclair segment will be made available through a proposed sales tax measure that will go to Los Angeles County voters in November 2016. If the tax is approved, the project would be ready to break ground in 2017 and be completed in 2023.

Community open house events are planned in each of the future corridor cities to update the community on the project’s design, funding status and to give the community an opportunity to see and provide feedback on the art concepts under development for each future station. The city-selected artist for each future station will be present at their respective meeting (for instance, the Glendora station artist will be at the Glendora Open House only); however, information about all six stations and the future art will be available at all meetings. Attend to talk one-on-one with project representatives and the station artists.

There will be no formal presentation at the open houses; arrive anytime between 6-8 PM.

About the Foothill Gold Line – The Foothill Gold Line is a nearly $2 billion, 12-station extension of the Metro Gold Line light rail system, being overseen by the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority, an independent transportation planning and construction agency created in 1998 by the California State Legislature. The project is planned in two segments – Pasadena to Azusa and Azusa to Montclair. The Pasadena to Azusa segment is fully funded by Los Angeles County’s Measure R and is on budget and on schedule to be completed in late-September 2015 when it will be turned over to Metro for pre-revenue service. Measure R is funding the majority of the cost associated with the advanced engineering and environmental work currently underway for the Azusa to Montclair segment, which will ready the project for a design-build procurement in 2017. The Construction Authority is currently seeking the $1 billion needed to construct the Azusa to Montclair segment.
