Los Angeles Mayor and Metro Board Chair Eric Garcetti joined Metro CEO Art Leahy and others in a dedication and renaming ceremony for Metro Bus Division 3 earlier today. In February 2015, the Metro Board unanimously voted to rename the Division 3 bus yard in Cypress Park “Leahy Division 3” in recognition of the many years of service by the Leahy family. The event celebrates the 125 years of combined service to Metro and its predecessor agencies by the family of outgoing Metro CEO Art Leahy.

Art’s father, Arthur F. Leahy, and his mother, Janie Weir, met as Division 3 streetcar operators after World War II. Art’s wife, Leilia Bailey, was a Division 5 operator who later rose to be the Director of Transportation and continues to be a legend in her own right. His brother Mike also served in Los Angeles County transportation for 25 years, largely in Operations.
