Metro Presents showcases art and cultural programs for all ages, and this Friday you and your family can enjoy a live slide show performance by the Ambassador of Americana, Charles Phoenix. Downtown Los Angelesland will explore historical sites and iconic landmarks in the city, in what Phoenix calls the “theme park” guide to downtown Los Angeles. See it all for free from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Union Station. (Metro Red, Purple, Gold Line to Union Station)
Saturday
The Santa Monica Airport and Cultural Affairs Division presents the 9th Annual Airport Artwalk Saturday in one of L.A. County’s oldest operating airfields. See open studios, art demonstrations, theater workshops and more in unique airplane hangars along Airport Avenue from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Interested in the history of Hollywood? Spend your Saturday touring the historic 1922 Egyptian Theatre, the home of Hollywood’s first movie premiere! At 10:30 a.m., you’ll see what it was like to be in a Grauman Stage Show with a visit to the old dressing rooms. The Behind The Scenes Tour will also include the viewing of a state-of-the-art projection booth and a screening of the film, Forever Hollywood, featuring over 20 actors and filmmakers. Tickets range from $7 to $15 and reservations are not required. The tour will last approximately one hour. Side note: Wear your walking shoes! (Metro Red Line to Hollywood/Highland)

Heidi Duckler’s Dance Theatre will present Space Opera at Thom Mayne’s Morphosis in Culver City Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Space Opera is the second Los Angeles performance in Duckler’s 30th season, offering theatre goers multiple perspectives on dance and architecture. Join dancers and live musicians on their mobile performance as they move from the parking lot, to the building’s workspace and finally into the garden courtyard. And if you’re planning on going to next week’s show instead, show your TAP card to receive a $5 discount on tickets! (Metro Expo Line to Culver City Station)
