Continuing our countdown to Valentine’s Day, today’s love-and-transit moments are for the real romantics out there.
We love trains here at Metro because they bring people together. (Admittedly, when it’s crowded, sometimes a little too close together.) In Falling in Love (1984) Meryl Streep bonds with Robert De Niro, whom she keeps bumping into on the Metro North Commuter Rail. In the film’s final scene, it all comes full circle in true Hollywood fashion:
ARVE Error: need id and providerBut a train ride can also force us to say farewell–sometimes before we’re ready. Such is the case in the classic French musical Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) when Geneviève (Catherine Deneuve) must say goodbye to her love Guy (Nino Castelnuovo) after he is drafted to fight in the Algerian War. Can you say Où sont les Kleenex?
ARVE Error: need id and providerHave your own romantic transit moment this Friday by participating in Speed Dating on the Red Line. Or check out our Destination Discounts page with Valentine’s picks for a fun date night that includes Metro. For example, our “art date night” features a free Metro art tour this Saturday, Feb. 14 that begins at Union Station. Then surprise your sweetheart (or treat yourself) with 10% off at See’s Candies.
Finally, if you have your own photos or stories of love on transit, please share this week by tagging #LoveMetroLA on Twitter or Instagram!
