Kick off the first weekend of the new year with the Capoeira Exchange at Union Station this Saturday, Jan. 3. For those unfamiliar with capoeira, it is a martial art form incorporating dance, song, music and oral history.
From noon to 2 p.m., Muito Tempo and Saracuru will initiate a roda, a circle formed by capoeiristas and musicians, into which two capoeiristas enter to play the “game.” Audience participation is welcome, and short, informal capoeira instruction will be offered throughout the event.
This free, all ages event will take place outside in Union Station’s South Patio. Union Station is accessible via Metro Rail, Metro Bus and several municipal bus lines. Use the Trip Planner at metro.net for routes and connections. Bicycle parking is also available on site.
