Orange Line BRT speed improvements caught in inner-agency delay (Streetsblog L.A.)
A plan to possibly speed up Orange Line buses when crossing intersections probably won’t be implemented until a memorandum-of-understanding is signed between Metro and the city of Los Angeles’ Department of Transportation, which controls traffic signals, Joe Linton reports. The timing of such an agreement is unknown although there appears to be willingness at both the city and Metro to do something that would shave a few minutes off Orange Line rides.
Construction contract awarded for LAX midfield concourse (L.A. Times)
Tucked into the story is news that the Los Angeles World Airport’s Board on Thursday approved a $4-billion ground transportation plan that includes a people mover that will run between the airport terminals (where there will be three stations), a new Intermodal Transportation Facility, the Crenshaw/LAX Line (a new Aviation/96th Station) and a consolidated rental car center. The news release from LAWA is here.
Net effects of gasoline prices on transit ridership (Mineta Transportation Institute)
A review of a decade of data between 2002 and 2011 shows that there is a correlation (not surprisingly) and that people are most likely to shift from driving to rail transit when gas goes over $3 a gallon.

Surely there is funding for those anti-terrorist pop-up plates (as seen in Los Angeles at the Simon Weisenthal Center) to be installed at each Orange Li(n)e crossing? More effective than crossbucks and arms, and could be lobbied for by the Security-Industrialists at LASD. Result? LADOT forced to allow for increased speeds at intersections!

As far as co-ordination of LADOT and Metro for the Orange Line: People need to inundate the Mayor of LA with comments. He is on the Metro Board and he has very real power over LADOT. If he tells LADOT that he wants it to happen in 2 months, it will happen. Look what he accomplished with Kinkishura and the union. Those are both groups that he has no real control over, Metro and LADOT he does.
