Just a heads up, the Blue Line Farmers’ Market has moved from Wednesdays to Thursdays! It still operates from 3 to 7 p.m., rain or shine, in the MLK Transit Center adjacent to the Blue Line Compton Station.
Go Metro and save 10% on your purchases by showing your valid TAP card to any of the vendors at the market. To get to the market, take the Metro Blue Line to Compton Station or Bus 202 to Willowbrook/Compton. It couldn’t be easier–you can see the market from the station platform!
The market started last September to address the City of Compton’s designation as a “food desert” by the USDA (an area meets the criteria of a ‘food desert’ when more than 15% of its residents are 1.5 miles or more from a grocery store). It provides fresh produce, local and/or hand-made wares, and meals/treats prepared on site to 90,000 Metro Blue Line commuters, as well as residents of Compton and the surrounding neighborhoods. The market has also featured live music/entertainment, children’s activities, and cooking demonstrations (not to mention free samples!).
