This Saturday, Councilmember José Huizar will host a street dedication ceremony and free community concert at Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights. The event can easily be reached from the Gold Line Mariachi Plaza Station and starts at 1 p.m.
The dedication of Avenida Lucha Reyes at Mariachi Plaza’s Bailey Street is in honor of legendary Mexican Ranchera singer and cultural icon Lucha Reyes. As part of the celebration, ranchero Mexican singer Ezequiel Peña, “El Nuevo Charro de México,” will headline a free community concert.
“As an artist, Lucha Reyes had few equals. As a woman who forged her own trail in a male-dominated genre, she is an inspiration to this day,” said Councilmember Huizar. “This dedication and concert is a reminder of her contributions and a chance for the community to come together and celebrate the life and legacy of Lucha Reyes, as well as the improvements occurring in Boyle Heights.”
The ribbon cutting for the street dedication will take place at 3 p.m.
