It’s the last weekend of Summer Slam on the SR-60. Lane closures will be in effect between Fullerton Road and Nogales Street for pavement rehabilitation. Here’s the press release from Caltrans:
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled 55-hour weekend lane closures on the Pomona Freeway (SR-60) between Fullerton Road and Nogales Street to rehabilitate the pavement. Although NOT a full freeway closure, motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes, avoid the area or use public transit.
The 55 hour lane closures will occur on the following dates, times and locations:
Friday, August 23 at 10 p.m. – Monday, August 26 at 5 a.m.
2 lanes of eastbound SR-60 to be closed
Hacienda Boulevard, Azusa Avenue, Fullerton Road and south Nogales Street on-ramps to be closed
Fullerton Road and Nogales Street off-ramps to be closed
* Full freeway closure will be in effect in direction of weekend closure
Saturday 1 a.m. – Saturday 5 a.m. and Monday 1 a.m. – Monday 5 a.m. for k-rail installation and removal
The Pomona Freeway (SR-60) is a major thoroughfare, serving commuters between Los Angeles and San Bernardino and Riverside counties. As a result of heavy use, the road has experienced extensive wear. SR-60 is being rehabilitated in both directions, between the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) and Orange Freeway (SR-57). Along with road pavement work, traffic loops installation and striping will take place within the project’s boundaries. Once the work is completed in late 2014, the new surface will provide a smoother, safer drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures.
The contractor on this $121.5 million project is Flatiron West Inc., of Chino, California and is scheduled to be completed in fall of 2014. The project is funded through the State Highway and Operations Protection Program (SHOPP).
