UPDATE: The El Monte Busway will remain open on Sunday due to the Los Angeles Marathon.
The El Monte Busway and I-10 ExpressLanes between Alameda Street and the I-710 Freeway will be closed this weekend due to Caltrans road work. This will impact the Metro Silver Line, Lines 485 and 487. Closure times are as follows:
- 10 p.m. Friday, March 15 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 17
Buses that usually use the Busway will be detoured into the general purpose freeway lanes on the I-710 Freeway. ExpressLanes will also not be available in the closure segment.
Metro will run a Silver Line Shuttle Special during the closure between El Monte Bus Station and Flower and 7th/Metro Center. The shuttle will travel surface streets to serve local station stops at Cal State LA and LAC/USC Medical Center. Shuttles will run approximately every 60 minutes.
Regularly scheduled Silver Line service from El Monte and Artesia Transit Center will have no change in posted departure times.

Caltrans work, shouldn’t the expresslanes already be completed? If there was going to be closures, I would think they should’ve waited, until all was done.
Fpr the Silver Line, I suggest waiving the express upcharge, due to the buses going off route, and most likely sitting in traffic on the usual weekend flow.
Hi Alex,
The Caltrans work is not on the ExpressLanes and is part of their scheduled project maintenance work. You can get more details on the work being done here.

I SERIOUSLY HATE THESE DETOURS!!!! What do you mean by “Caltrans Work”? Is Caltrans working on the future Silver Line station at Union Station? The Silver Line always seems to have a “detour” very often and on top of that riders pay $2.45 to ride the line. This is what makes the line unreliable since it always having a silly detour. I’ll rather take Metro Rail as an alternative.
